Microstructure evolution of nanoprecipitates in half-Heusler TiNiSn alloys

Acta Materialia, 2013
Abstract The microstructures of thermoelectric TiNiSn half-Heusler alloys have been studied in detail. For concentration ratios that are slightly rich in Ni, a high density of Heusler-phase nanosized precipitates tended to precipitate within a half-Heusler matrix.

Thermoelectric properties of Ti0.3Zr0.35Hf0.35Ni1.005Sn half-Heusler alloy

Journal of Applied Physics, 2019
Thermoelectrics enabling a direct conversion of waste heat into useful electricity is widely investigated for renewable energy applications. n-type half-Heusler (HH) MNiSn (M = Ti,Zr,Hf) thermoelectric (TE) elements are known as attractive semiconducting candidates for such purposes.

Nanosized precipitates in half-Heusler TiNiSn alloy

Applied Physics Letters, 2012
The microstructure of half-Heusler TiNiSn alloy has been investigated in this study. A high density of coherent nanosized Heusler precipitates was found within the half-Heusler matrix. Formation of these Heusler precipitates occurs by a phase separation process, where a single phase solid solution (half-Heusler-Heusler) decomposes into an equilibrium ...

Dilute Magnetic Semiconductors Based on Half-Heusler Alloys

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 2007
We have investigated the electronic structure and magnetism of Mn-doped half-Heusler alloys by using the Korringa–Kohn–Rostoker coherent potential approximation (KKR-CPA) method within the local density approximation (LDA). Half-Heusler compounds can be attractive for spintronic applications because the crystal structure and lattice constant of these ...

Iron‐based Semiconducting Half‐Heusler Alloys for Thermoelectric Applications

ChemNanoMat, 2022
AbstractIron‐based half‐Heusler alloys constitute an emerging class of semiconducting intermetallics for scalable and efficient thermoelectric conversion, owing to their remarkably high‐power factor, abundance, and low cost. This review encompasses the recent advances in materials synthesis and evolving aspects of optimization pathways in pre‐existing ...

Thermoelectric properties of Bi-doped half-Heusler alloys

Eighteenth International Conference on Thermoelectrics. Proceedings, ICT'99 (Cat. No.99TH8407), 2003
Based on our preliminary promising results for Sb-doped ZrNiSn-type half-Heusler intermetallics, we made a new series of Bi-doped samples Zr/sub 0.5/Hf/sub 0.5/NiSn/sub 1-x/Bi/sub x/ with concentrations x in the range 0/spl les/x/spl les/0.02. While the isoelectronic alloying of Zr and Hf reduces the lattice thermal conductivity, doping on the Sn site ...

Magnetic behavior of half-Heusler alloy CuxNi1−xMnSb

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2005
Abstract We have investigated the effects on the magnetic properties of NiMnSb alloys with the substitution of Cu for Ni. The half-Heusler type alloys, CuxNi1−xMnSb compounds, are fabricated by the arc-melting method and are subsequently annealed at a temperature of 1050 K for 24 h.
