The White-tailed Eagle Haliaeetus albicilla is the only sea eagle that breeds in Hokkaido. Its breeding area is restricted to the northern and eastern coasts of Hokkaido. This species also breeds in the Kurile islands and is a rare or uncommon winter visitor in Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Ryukyu and their adjacent islands.
