Conservation Genetics, 2019Bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) underwent a severe population bottleneck in the mid-1900s due to Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) use as an insecticide. After its ban in 1972, the population began to recover with the increase being attributed to banning DDT and reintroduction/translocation programs.

Two wild adult bald eagles (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) were presented to the University of Florida zoological medicine department on separate dates, both being unable to fly. One eagle had a fracture of the left humerus, and the second had no external injuries.
