Analysis of Airbreathing Hall-Effect Thrusters
Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2011The principle idea of using air breathing electrical propulsion for a vehicle flying at orbital speed on the edge of Earth’s atmosphere is examined. In this paper, we present a simple model of a Hall Effect thruster in which the propellant is an ambient air.

Kinetic Effects in Hall Thruster Discharge
42nd AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2006Recent analytical studies and particle-in-cell simulations suggested that the electron velocity distribution function in E×B discharge of annular geometry Hall thrusters is non-Maxwellian and anisotropic. The average kinetic energy of electron motion in the direction parallel to the thruster channel walls (across the magnetic field) is several times ...

µ-Hall Effect Thruster Characterization
49th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2011Results of two methods to characterize a novel micro-Hall effect thruster are presented. The voltage-current characteristics of the thruster during steady state operation are reported. The exhaust plume is characterized using Faraday probe measurements and the beam efficiency is reported.
