Electron and Ion in Hall Effect Thrusters

2008
Hall Effect Thrusters (HETs) are gridless ion sources that can provide thrust on the order of 80 mN per kW of electrical power, with propellant velocity in the 20-30 km/s range. HETs are well suited for tasks such as satellite station keeping and are also considered for interplanetary missions.

Low-Current Hollow Cathodes for Hall Effect Thrusters

2018
Two low-current hollow cathodes, HC1 and HC3, were respectively designed at Sitael for a nominal discharge current of 1 and 3 A, as their name suggests. A numerical model developed in-house was used to select the cathode geometry, as well as to estimate the cathode expected lifetime on the basis of the emitter evaporation.
