Technical wildness: Modernity, romanticism, and the technocratic turn in Scottish rewilding

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Technical wildness is a new and increasingly influential culture of nature. This paper marks its emergence in Scotland in the early 2020s. Focusing on Scotland's rapidly evolving land management sector, the paper traces how private rewilding companies position science‐led land management and natural capital markets as the most effective ...

Simulation Insights Into Enhanced Emitter Contact Passivation via LECO on Industrial TOPCon Solar Cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Numerical simulations were employed to boost industrial TOPCon cells from 25.5% to 26.07% by suppressing J0e,metal,eff without compromising ρc with a dual optimization strategy: (1) engineering the selective emitter sheet resistance (Rsh_SE) to 117 Ω/□ and (2) reducing the LECO‐induced partial metal contact ratio (fpmc) to 1%.

Ion Engine and Hall Thruster Development at the NASA Glenn Research Center

open access: yes, 2002
NASA's Glenn Research Center has been selected to lead development of NASA's Evolutionary Xenon Thruster (NEXT) system. The central feature of the NEXT system is an electric propulsion thruster (EPT) that inherits the knowledge gained through the NSTAR ...

Identifying Suitable Front Contacts for High‐Efficiency Cd(Se,Te) Solar Cells on Space‐Qualified Cover Glass

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Front contact selection governs interfacial stability in CdTe‐based (Cd(Se,Te)) solar cells on ultra‐thin space‐qualified cover glass. Optimized TCO/emitter combinations suppress interdiffusion and deliver up to 16.2% AM0 efficiency with high specific power, demonstrating strong potential for lightweight space photovoltaics.

Hall-Effect Thruster Utilizing Bismuth as Propellant

open access: yes, 2008
A laboratory-model Hall-effect spacecraft thruster was developed that utilizes bismuth as the propellant. Xenon was used in most prior Hall-effect thrusters.

Weeds in a changing climate: Competitors or service plants?

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Reducing herbicide use and preparing agroecosystems for climate change are two top priorities on the global policy agenda. Here, we explore whether these two challenges can be tackled simultaneously. While weeds are generally considered a threat to crop production, we show that weeds can help overcome climate change challenges in agroecosystems ...
