Anodic plasma in Hall thrusters

Journal of Applied Physics, 2008
In this paper plasma dynamics and ionization of propellant gas are modeled within the anode holes used for gas injection of a Hall thruster. Under conditions of anode coating with dielectric material, the discharge current should close within these holes, which results in ionization and formation of plasma jets emanating from the openings.

Anode sheath in Hall thrusters

Applied Physics Letters, 2003
A set of hydrodynamic equations is used to describe quasineutral plasma in ionization and acceleration regions of a Hall thruster. The electron distribution function and Poisson equation are invoked for description of a near-anode region. Numerical solutions suggest that steady-state operation of a Hall thruster can be achieved at different anode ...

Computation of Hall Thruster Performance

Journal of Propulsion and Power, 2001
A quasi-neutral one-dimensional hybrid model of a stationary plasma thruster has been used to predict the performance of a laboratory model thruster tested in the Propulsion Ionique pour Vols Orbitaux, Interpretation et Nouvelles Experiences, facility. In this model ions are treated as particles and electrons as a uid and quasi neutrality is assumed ...

µ-Hall Effect Thruster Characterization

49th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2011
Results of two methods to characterize a novel micro-Hall effect thruster are presented. The voltage-current characteristics of the thruster during steady state operation are reported. The exhaust plume is characterized using Faraday probe measurements and the beam efficiency is reported.

Plasma oscillations in Hall thrusters

Physics of Plasmas, 2001
The nature of oscillations in the 1 kHz–60 MHz frequency range that have been observed during operation of Hall thrusters is quantitatively discussed. Contours of various plasma parameters measured inside the accelerating channel of a typical Hall thruster are used to evaluate the various stability criteria and dispersion relations of oscillations that

Numerical modeling of Hall thruster

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2005
A stationary plasma thruster is numerically studied using different levels. An one dimensional modeling is first analyzed and compared with experimental results. A simplified model of oscillations thruster is proposed and used to control the amplitude of oscillations. A two dimensional numerical method is discussed and applied to the computation of the
