Quasar Clustering in Cosmological Hydrodynamic Simulations: Evidence for mergers

open access: yes, 2010
We examine the clustering properties of a population of quasars drawn from fully hydrodynamic cosmological simulations that directly follow black hole growth.

A comparative study of circulating tumor cell isolation and enumeration technologies in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Lung cancer cells were spiked into donor blood to evaluate the recovery rates of the following circulating tumor cell (CTC) enrichment technologies: CellMag™, EasySep™, RosetteSep™, Parsortix® PR1, and Parsortix® Prototype systems. Each method's advantages and disadvantages are described.

Influence of Different Levels of Load on the Metabolic Profile of Horses – a Review

open access: yesScientific Papers Animal Science and Biotechnologies, 2023
Livestock breeding has been carried out for several millennia based on an external assessment, i.e. exterior. Especially in horses that are bred for muscular work, the relationship between the shape of the body structure on the one hand and the purpose ...

The outer regions of the giant Virgo galaxy M87. Kinematic separation of stellar halo and intracluster light

open access: yes, 2015
We present a spectroscopic study of 287 Planetary Nebulas (PNs) in a total area of ~0.4 deg^2 around the BCG M87 in Virgo A. With these data we can distinguish the stellar halo from the co-spatial intracluster light (ICL).

Cell‐free and extracellular vesicle microRNAs with clinical utility for solid tumors

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cell‐free microRNAs (cfmiRs) are small‐RNA circulating molecules detectable in almost all body biofluids. Innovative technologies have improved the application of cfmiRs to oncology, with a focus on clinical needs for different solid tumors, but with emphasis on diagnosis, prognosis, cancer recurrence, as well as treatment monitoring.

Assembly History and Internal Structure of Cluster Cold Dark Matter Haloes [PDF]

open access: yes
We use the Phoenix simulations to study the mass assembly history and internal structures of cluster dark matter haloes ($M_{200} \gtrsim 5\times 10^{14} h^{-1}{\rm M}_\odot$). We confirm that cluster haloes grow inside-out, similar to galactic haloes.

The association between physical fitness and health in a nationally representative sample of Canadian children and youth aged 6 to 17 years

open access: yesHealth Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention in Canada, 2019
Introduction: This study explored the relationship between physical fitness and indicators of physical and psychosocial health in a nationally representative sample of Canadian children and youth aged 6–17 years.

Mapping the Galactic Halo with blue horizontal branch stars from the 2dF quasar redshift survey

open access: yes, 2010
We use 666 blue horizontal branch (BHB) stars from the 2Qz redshift survey to map the Galactic halo in four dimensions (position, distance and velocity).

KRAS and GNAS mutations in cell‐free DNA and in circulating epithelial cells in patients with intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms—an observational pilot study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that KRAS and GNAS mutations are more prevalent in patients with resected intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms (IPMN) compared to those under clinical surveillance. GNAS mutations significantly differ between the two patient cohorts, indicating that their absence may serve as a potential biomarker to support conservative ...
