Halogenation

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1963
AbstractWithin the past twenty years, while much of the research and development appeal in the halogenation of fats and fatty derivatives has been associated with the evolution of new and useful derivatives such as arthritis cures and artificial rubber plasticizers, the principal utility of the halogenated fats still continues to be in the production ...

Halogen⋯Halogen Interactions: Nature, Directionality and Applications

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2023
AbstractHalogen⋯halogen interaction is a highly debated and important topic in crystal engineering and supramolecular chemistry. There are controversies about the nature and geometry of these interactions. F, Cl, Br and I are the four halogens involved in these interactions. Very often the lighter and the heavier halogens behave differently. The nature

Arctic halogens reduce ozone in the northern mid-latitudes [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America
9 pags., 5 figs., 1 tab. While the dominant role of halogens in Arctic ozone loss during spring has been widely studied in the last decades, the impact of sea-ice halogens on surface ozone abundance over the northern hemisphere (NH) mid-latitudes remains ...

Synthon crossover between halogen⋯π and halogen⋯halogen interaction

CrystEngComm, 2014
The synthon crossover between the halogen⋯π interaction and halogen bonding in a series of N-(4-halophenyl)-2-naphthamide and N-(4-halophenyl)quinoline-2-carboxamide has been investigated by different methods. The results indicate that the heteroatom substitution in the aromatic ring leads to a change in the iodine bonding acceptor site from the iodine

Absence of halogen...halogen interactions in chlorotrimethylsilane polymorphs

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 2006
The structures of in situ pressure-frozen chlorotrimethylsilane crystals, (CH3)3SiCl, have been determined at 0.23, 0.30 and 0.58 GPa. The molecular arrangements in the low-temperature and high-pressure phases are two-dimensionally isostructural, but different in the third perpendicular direction.

Halogens in the Troposphere

Analytical Chemistry, 2009
Although inorganic halogen gases are believed to play key roles in the chemistry of the lower atmosphere, many of them have not yet been detected or measured in ambient air. This article describes some of the current techniques and future needs for inorganic halogens in air.

SELECTIVE HALOGENATION OF AROMATICS BY DIMETHYL-DIOXIRANE AND HALOGEN IONS

Synthetic Communications, 2001
The oxidation of halogen anions by dimethyldioxirane (DMD) produced reactive species which led, in acidic media, to the halogenation of activated aromatic rings.

Halogen bonding in solution

Chemical Society Reviews, 2012
Halogen bonding is the electron density donation based weak interaction of halogens with Lewis bases. Its applicability for molecular recognition processes long remained unappreciated and has so far mostly been studied in silico and in solid state.

The halogenation of Athabasca asphaltenes with elemental halogen

Fuel, 1971
Halogenation (chlorination, bromination, and iodination) of Athabasca asphaltenes, by treatment with elemental halogen, occurs readily to afford the corresponding halo-asphaltenes. The results are discussed in terms of σ -bonded halogen rather than formation of charge-transfer complexes.

Ingestion of Halogens

Archives of Dermatology, 1972
To the Editor.— In the past three months, I have treated two female patients, one aged 53, the second aged 32, both of whom had developed a noncomedone type of adult facial acne. The first patient had been ingesting an anticholengeric drug, mepenzolate bromide (Cantril) for months.
