Halogens, alcohols and potassium permanganate extend the storability of hot pepper seeds (Capsicum annuum l.) under accelerated ageing conditions

open access: yesJournal of Horticultural Research, 2013
The feasibility of extending the storability of fresh hot pepper seeds, by modifying the storage atmosphere, using the respiration inhibitors and seed desiccants was examined.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Inter(pseudo)halogens with relevance to peroxidase-mediated reactions

open access: yesRedox Biochemistry and Chemistry, 2023
In mammals, heme peroxidases are well known to generate oxidized (pseudo)halide products such as hypochlorous acid, hypobromous acid, oxidized iodine species, and hypothiocyanite.

An improved discharge technique for excimer lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The further development of discharge excimer lasers depends upon a better degree of control over the discharge stability. A problem is the large difference between the breakdown and steady-state voltage which requires a time dependent impedance of the ...

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Novel Tailoring of Ternary ZnS‐MXene‐TiO2 Nanocomposite Heterojunction and Its Tunable Electrochemical Properties With Enhanced Photocatalytic Degradation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
ZnS‐MXene‐TiO2 nanocomposite heterojunction for photocatalytic decomposition of this methylene blue dye (MB) greatly improves light absorption, charge separation, and active site area. Two‐dimensional MXene forms nanocomposites by easily combining them with 0D (quantum dots), 1D (tube and wire), 2D (plane and sheet), and 3D (particle and lamellar ...

Ozone depletion events observed in the high latitude surface layer during the TOPSE aircraft program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
During the Tropospheric Ozone Production about the Spring Equinox (TOPSE) aircraft program, ozone depletion events (ODEs) in the high latitude surface layer were investigated using lidar and in situ instruments.

Numerical Exploration of Thermal Shock Resistance in MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A mesostructure‐resolved numerical framework is developed to evaluate the thermal shock resistance of MgO–C refractories. By modeling interface debonding under rapid temperature changes and introducing a modified thermal shock parameter that accounts for mesocracks, the study shows how graphite content and aggregate size influence thermal shock ...

Iodine and Bromine Analysis in Human Urine and Serum by ICP-MS, Tailored for High-Throughput Routine Analysis in Population-Based Studies

open access: yesAnalytica
Iodine is essential for thyroid hormone synthesis and is particularly critical during pregnancy, where excess and mainly its deficiencies can impair fetal neurodevelopment and increase maternal complications.

Characterization of Double Leached Waelz Oxide for Identification of Fluoride Mineral

open access: yesMetals, 2019
Double leached Waelz oxide (DLWO), with 76% zinc, is a secondary zinc containing raw materials obtained by the treatment of electric arc furnace dust. The content of fluoride in DLWO is still too high for direct leaching, as fluoride has a detrimental ...
