Temperature is not a limiting factor for the expansion of Halophila stipulacea throughout the Mediterranean Sea [PDF]
The seagrass Halophila stipulacea is a Lessepsian migrant that has spread from the Red Sea into the Mediterranean Sea where some authors consider it invasive. It has been suggested that the range of expansion of the species in the Mediterranean will be limited by the 15 degrees C sea surface isotherm.

Aquatic Botany, 1975Abstract The recorded expansion in the Eastern Mediterranean of Halophila stipulacea , which appeared in this sea after the Suez Canal had been opened, is reviewed. The present geographical and ecological distributions of this plant in the Mediterranean are summarized and its phenology in this basin is discussed.

Aquatic Botany, 2006Abstract The small seagrass species, Halophila stipulacea is abundant in the subtidal zone of the Bay of Eilat, Red Sea, southern Israel. Early life history characteristics of this species were investigated in summer 2002 by means of field surveys and outdoor experiments. Monospecific stands were found at depths of between 2 and 20 m.
