The Halophile Protein Database [PDF]

open access: yesDatabase, 2014
Halophilic archaea/bacteria adapt to different salt concentration, namely extreme, moderate and low. These type of adaptations may occur as a result of modification of protein structure and other changes in different cell organelles. Thus proteins may play an important role in the adaptation of halophilic archaea/bacteria to saline conditions.

Stress Conditioned Early‐Stage Screening in Biocatalysis

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 3, 12 February 2026.
Standard enzyme screening often overlooks industrial stress. We propose integrating conditions like pH shifts, low oxygen, interfacial deactivation, and high substrate/product levels into early high‐throughput assays. By measuring stress‐relevant metrics such as turnover under stress, cofactor efficiency, and solvent stability, the enzyme selection ...

Production of Rhamnolipid using Moderate Halophilic Pseudomonas aeruginosa SH-6 isolated from a Saline Lake

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology
Biosurfactants are tensio-active, amphipathic biomolecules, which can reduce the surface tension of liquids. Synthetic surfactants are predominantly toxic, resistant to degradation, and exhibit narrow range of activity, whereas surface-active ...

Approach toward enhancement of halophilic protease production by Halobacterium sp. strain LBU50301 using statistical design response surface methodology

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports, 2016
A new potent halophilic protease producer, Halobacterium sp. strain LBU50301 was isolated from salt-fermented fish samples (budu) and identified by phenotypic analysis, and 16S rDNA gene sequencing. Thereafter, sequential statistical strategy was used to

An identity card for sabkha dolomite

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
An ‘identity card’ for modern sabkha dolomite from Qatar reveals its mineralogical, geochemical and microbial characteristics. This integrated dataset provides a benchmark for recognising similar dolomites in the rock record and for calibrating paleoenvironmental proxies used in climate and biosignature studies.

Fluoride Resistant Bacillus paralicheniformis (MSO5) Isolated from Halophytic Zone of Coringa Mangrove Wildlife Sanctuary

open access: yesJournal of Pure and Applied Microbiology
Fluoride contamination in water sources represents a persistent and grave global issue with severe health implications. Microorganisms are known to demonstrate tolerance to various pollutants, enabling their survival in diverse and adverse environments ...

Microbial mediation and climatic control on dolomite precipitation in a hypersaline lake: Insights from Salinas Lake, southern Iberia

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 12, Issue 1, February 2026.
The cyclical nature of aridity and humidity led to the alternating deposition of dolomite‐rich and calcite‐rich sediments. During arid phases, the lake hydrology and growth of microbial mats under evaporative and hypersaline environment favors the precipitation of dolomite.

Halalophilc and halotolerant fungi in cultivated dessert and salt marsh soils from Egypt

open access: yesActa Mycologica, 2014
One hundred halophilic and halotolerant species in addition to 3 varieties belonging to 27 genera were collccted from 25 samples of cultivated desert and saline soils from different habitats in Egypt on 5-25%. NaCl-Czapek's agar at 28°C(±2°C>.

SICLE: A high-throughput tool for extracting evolutionary relationships from phylogenetic trees

open access: yes, 2016
We present the phylogeny analysis software SICLE (Sister Clade Extractor), an easy-to-use, high- throughput tool to describe the nearest neighbors to a node of interest in a phylogenetic tree as well as the support value for the relationship.

Regulation of osmoadaptation in the moderate halophile Halobacillus halophilus : chloride, glutamate and switching osmolyte strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The moderate halophile Halobacillus halophilus is the paradigm for chloride dependent growth in prokaryotes. Recent experiments shed light on the molecular basis of the chloride dependence that is reviewed here.
