Moderate irrigation intervals facilitate establishment of two desert shrubs in the Taklimakan Desert Highway Shelterbelt in China.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
BackgroundWater influences various physiological and ecological processes of plants in different ecosystems, especially in desert ecosystems. The purpose of this study is to investigate the response of physiological and morphological acclimation of two ...

Light use efficiency in pure and mixed Eucalyptus and Acacia mangium plantations with different stocking densities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Competition for light in mixed-species plantations is a main limiting factor for tree growth. Understanding the light absorption and light use efficiency for each species at different planting densities and spatial arrangement of trees is essential for ...

Great Gerbils (Rhombomys opimus) in Central Asia Are Spreading to Higher Latitudes and Altitudes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 11, November 2024.
This paper focuses on the distributional changes and migration paths of greater gerbils in Central Asia under different climatic scenarios, with the aim of supporting regional wildlife management. ABSTRACT The great gerbil (Rhombomys opimus) is a gregarious rodent in Central Asia and is one of the major pests found in desert forest and grassland areas.

An updated phylogeny and adaptive evolution within Amaranthaceae s.l. inferred from multiple phylogenomic datasets

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, July 2024.
Our results strongly demonstrated that Amaranthaceae s.l. was clustered with monophyletic traditional Chenopodiaceae (Clades I and II) and Amaranthaceae s.s. based on multiple phylogenomic datasets. Phylogenetic analysis of adaptive evolution showed that positively selected genes played a driving role in the evolutionary direction of Amaranthaceae s.l.

古尔班通古特沙漠人工林土壤水分及其影响因素 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009

Response of soil inorganic nitrogen dynamics to planting age and vegetation type in artificial sand‐fixing land

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2024.
Abstract Vegetation restoration in dryland regions may be a powerful way to control desertification and promote local habitat recovery. In these artificial revegetation systems, ecosystem processes and functioning are strongly determined by nitrogen (N) availability, while soil inorganic N (SIN) is the major available N form and is absorbed as a main N

Unraveling microbial community structure–function relationships in the horizontal and vertical spatial dimensions in extreme environments

open access: yesEcography, Volume 2024, Issue 6, June 2024.
A fundamental challenge in soil macroecology is to understand how microbial community structure shapes ecosystem function along environmental gradients of the land surface at broad spatial scales (i.e. the horizontal dimension). However, little is known about microbial community structure–function relationships in extreme environments along ...
