Non-standard construction of Hamiltonian structures [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 1997
Examples of the construction of Hamiltonian structures for dynamical systems in field theory (including one reputedly non-Hamiltonian problem) without using Lagrangians, are presented. The recently developed method used requires the knowledge of one constant of the motion of the system under consideration and one solution of the symmetry equation.

Entanglement entropy in quantum spin chains with broken parity number symmetry

open access: yesSciPost Physics, 2022
Consider a generic quantum spin chain that can be mapped to free quadratic fermions via Jordan-Wigner (JW) transformation. In the presence of arbitrary boundary magnetic fields, this Hamiltonian is no longer a quadratic Hamiltonian after JW ...

Robust and Efficient Hamiltonian Learning [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum, 2023
With the fast development of quantum technology, the sizes of both digital and analog quantum systems increase drastically. In order to have better control and understanding of the quantum hardware, an important task is to characterize the interaction, i.

Stability of Structured Hamiltonian Eigensolvers [PDF]

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 2001
This work concerns the stability of structured Hamiltonian eigensolvers. The structured backward errors are defined. By introducing the symplectic quasi-QR factorization, the structured backward errors can be efficiently computed. A detailed rounding error analysis of some Jacobi-like algorithms is also given.

A Structural Observation on Port-Hamiltonian Systems

open access: yesSIAM Journal on Control and Optimization, 2023
We study port-Hamiltonian systems on a familiy of intervals and characterise all boundary conditions leading to $m$-accretive realisations of the port-Hamiltonian operator and thus to generators of contractive semigroups. The proofs are based on a structural observation that the port-Hamiltonian operator can be transformed to the derivative on a ...

Compilation by stochastic Hamiltonian sparsification [PDF]

open access: yesQuantum, 2020
Simulation of quantum chemistry is expected to be a principal application of quantum computing. In quantum simulation, a complicated Hamiltonian describing the dynamics of a quantum system is decomposed into its constituent terms, where the effect of ...

Alternative structures and bi-Hamiltonian systems [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2002
In the study of bi-Hamiltonian systems (both classical and quantum) one starts with a given dynamics and looks for all alternative Hamiltonian descriptions it admits. In this paper we start with two compatible Hermitian structures (the quantum analog of two compatible classical Poisson brackets) and look for all the dynamical systems which turn out to ...

On a Recently Introduced Fifth-Order Bi-Hamiltonian Equation and Trivially Related Hamiltonian Operators

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2011
We show that a recently introduced fifth-order bi-Hamiltonian equation with a differentially constrained arbitrary function by A. de Sole, V.G. Kac and M. Wakimoto is not a new one but a higher symmetry of a third-order equation.

The Lie Algebra Structure of Degenerate Hamiltonian and Bi-Hamiltonian Systems [PDF]

open access: yesProgress of Theoretical Physics, 1982
Summary: A generalization of Noether's theorem is obtained via an extension of the well-known Poisson bracket formalism. It is shown that degenerate closed forms yield Lie algebra homomorphisms between vector fields and covector fields. A similar result holds for operators working in the opposite way. Application of these Lie algebra homomorphisms to a
