Classical Mechanics is Lagrangian; It Is Not Hamiltonian [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
One can (for the most part) formulate a model of a classical system in either the Lagrangian or the Hamiltonian framework. Though it is often thought that those two formulations are equivalent in all important ways, this is not true: the ...

Hamiltonian structure of the Lotka-Volterra equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The Lotka-Volterra equations governing predator-prey relations are shown to admit Hamiltonian structure with respect to a generalized Poisson bracket.

Strain Engineering of Magnetoresistance and Magnetic Anisotropy in CrSBr

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Biaxial compressive strain significantly enhances magnetoresistance and critical saturation fields in thin flakes of the 2D magnet CrSBr, along all three crystallographic axes. First‐principles calculations link these effects to strain‐induced increases in exchange interactions and magnetic anisotropy.

Revealing noncanonical Hamiltonian structures in relativistic fluid dynamics

open access: yesFundamental Plasma Physics
We present the noncanonical Hamiltonian structure of the relativistic Euler equations for a perfect fluid in Minkowski spacetime. By identifying the system’s noncanonical Poisson bracket and Hamiltonian, we show that relativistic fluid flows preserve ...

Artificial Intelligence‐Assisted Workflow for Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
AI‐Assisted Workflow for (Scanning) Transmission Electron Microscopy: From Data Analysis Automation to Materials Knowledge Unveiling. Abstract (Scanning) transmission electron microscopy ((S)TEM) has significantly advanced materials science but faces challenges in correlating precise atomic structure information with the functional properties of ...

Hamiltonian Structure of PI Hierarchy

open access: yesSymmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications, 2007
The string equation of type (2,2g+1) may be thought of as a higher order analogue of the first Painlevé equation that corresponds to the case of g = 1. For g > 1, this equation is accompanied with a finite set of commuting isomonodromic deformations, and

The current algebra representations of quantum many-particle Schrödinger type Hamiltonian models, their factorized structure and integrability

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2019
There is developed a current algebra representation scheme for reconstructing algebraically factorized quantum Hamiltonian and symmetry operators in the Fock type space and its application to quantum Hamiltonian and symmetry operators in case of quantum ...

Spin and Charge Control of Topological End States in Chiral Graphene Nanoribbons on a 2D Ferromagnet

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Chiral graphene nanoribbons on a ferromagnetic gadolinium‐gold surface alloy display tunable spin and charge states at their termini. Atomic work function variations and exchange fields enabe transitions between singlet, doublet, and triplet configurations.

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the
