NMR Spectroscopy, Hammett Correlations and Biological Activity of Some Schiff Bases Derived from Piperonal

A series of eleven Schiff Bases have been synthesized. They were obtained by condensation of piperonal (3,4-methylenedioxybenzaldehyde) with the corresponding aromatic primary amines.

Summary Streptocarpus aylae T.J.Edwards, a spectacular, rosette forming herbaceous perennial from cliffs of the Msikaba River in Pondoland, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa is illustrated and discussed. The species is known from only two sites and is highly localised, growing in humus rich cracks and crevices on sandstone cliffs.

A series of 5‐nitroimidazole‐1,2,3‐triazole hybrids was synthesised and evaluated for antitrypanosomatid activity to assess their potential as treatments against leishmaniasis and trypanosomiasis. No notable in vitro activity against Leishmania was detected.
