Ganglioneuromas in hamsters

Acta Neuropathologica, 1975
A description is given of three cases of ganglioneuromas, which originated from ganglia of the sympathetic chain of hamsters. Other reports of such tumors in this species are reviewed and the literature relative to hamster ganglioneuromas presented. In addition, the possible genesis of origin from adult ganglion cells upon the action of carcinogenic ...

Effects of aflatoxin on pregnant hamsters and hamster foetuses

Journal of Comparative Pathology, 1980
Abstract Pregnant hamsters were given 4 or 6 mg per kg crystalline aflatoxin B 1 by i.p. injection on days 8 and 9 of pregnancy. Foetuses were examined for gross and/or histological lesions on days 11 and 15. Aflatoxin, at both doses, caused primarily foetal growth retardation.

CARDIOMYOPATHY OF HAMSTER DYSTROPHY

Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 1979
Investigations of the fine structural changes observed in the hearts of cardiomyopathic hamsters at very early stages of the disease indicate that the initial changes involve the pericapillary mesenchymal cells. Other prominent features consist of hypercontraction of cardiocytes, disruption of intercalated disks, and eventual partitioning of cardiac ...

The Laboratory Hamster

2021
Hamsters are one of the commonly used animal species in research related to virology and infectious agents. Hamsters are similar to human beings in many metabolic and physiological processes. Though the use of hamsters in research has declined in the last few decades, the genetically engineered Syrian hamster (GESH) model is seeing increased popularity

Transplantation of hamster buccal pouch carcinoma to neonatal hamsters

Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, 1979
Epidermoid carcinomas of oral mucosa were induced with DMBA in the buccal pouches of hamsters. The well-differentiated primary tumors were allografted into the peritoneal cavities of neonatal hamsters that had been treated with antilymphocyte serum. Solid tumors grew rapidly in the peritoneum and were harvested 6 to 31 days postimplantation.

RU486 is not an antiprogestin in the hamster

Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1987
The biological activity and progestin receptor binding activity of the synthetic steroid RU486 (RU38486; 17-beta-hydroxy-11-beta-(4-dimethylaminophenyl)-17-alpha-(1-propynl++ +)- estra-4,9-diene-3-one) were investigated in the hamster. RU486 demonstrated no antiprogestational activity in the female hamster in that it was ineffective in blocking ...

Passage of intratracheally instilled ultrafine particles from the lung into the systemic circulation in hamster.

American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2001
The mechanisms of particulate pollution-related cardiovascular morbidity and mortality are not well understood. We studied the passage of radioactively labeled ultrafine particles after their intratracheal instillation.

Assay of Gonadotropin in the Hamster

Endocrinology, 1964
Doses of gonadotropin (HCG) ranging from 0.25 to 20 IU were injected subcutaneously into immature male hamsters daily for 5 days. The increase in weight of the sex accessory glands was used as the end point of the assay. Representative samples of the tissue were fixed in Bouin’s fluid and examined histologically.
