Muscle Activation During Various Hamstring Exercises
Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2014The dorsal muscles of the lower torso and extremities have often been denoted the "posterior chain." These muscles are used to support the thoracic and lumbar spine and peripheral joints, including the hip, knee, and ankle on the dorsal aspect of the body.

Practical Management: Hamstring Muscle Injuries
Clinical Journal of Sport Medicine, 2003INTRODUCTIONHamstring muscle injuries are the most common muscle injury in running and sprinting athletes, leading to significant pain, disability, and time lost from sports participation. 1–5 Persistent symptoms, slow healing, and a high rate of re-injury make hamstring injuries a frustrating ...

Computed tomography of hamstring muscle strains
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1989Acute hamstring muscle strains occurring in ten college athletes were evaluated using computed tomography to identify the location and characteristics of these common injuries. Acute muscle strains appeared as areas of hypodensity within the muscle 1-2 d following injury.

Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using hamstring tendons has recently received attention because of less donor site morbidity. It has been reported that harvesting hamstring tendons has little effect on postoperative hamstring muscle performance based on the peak torque value of the hamstring strength.

PURPOSE Hamstring muscle strain injury is very common in sports involving high-speed running. Hamstring muscles originate from the ischial tuberosity and thus pelvic position may influence hamstring strain during different sports movements like sprinting,

Abstract Purpose We determined the relationship between hamstring injury and hamstring length in a prospective analysis of adolescent football players as well as assessing the impact of age and test type upon hamstring length. Method One hundred and eleven footballers (9–19 years old) volunteered after subject and parental/guardian consent ...

Imaging of Acute Hamstring Muscle Strain Injuries
Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology, 2017AbstractAcute athletic hamstring muscle strain injuries are common and a cause of significant time off sport. An understanding of the anatomy of the hamstring muscle-tendon units is a prerequisite for interpreting the spectrum of structural abnormalities on imaging. The site of injury may range from proximal tendon, proximal myotendinous junction, with

Probably the most common lower limb injury in amateur and professional athletics is strain of the hamstring muscles. Its frequent mismanagement stems from the inability of the athlete and his medical advisors to assess accurately the severity of the damage, coupled with the often premature return to competition which can result in a demoralising repeat

Biomechanical response to hamstring muscle strain injury
Gait & Posture, 2009Hamstring strains are common injuries, the majority of which occur whilst sprinting. An understanding of the biomechanical circumstances that cause the hamstrings to fail during sprinting is required to improve rehabilitation specificity. The aim of this study was to therefore investigate the biomechanics of an acute hamstring strain.
