Hand gesture detection and extraction

2013 IEEE China Summit and International Conference on Signal and Information Processing, 2013
A novel algorithm for detecting and extracting hand gestures is proposed which uses an on-line adaptive learning approach to fit the hand skin color distribution of each individual user in various environments. The on-line adaptive skin-color learning approach is designed by two strategies: negative skin-color exclusion and dynamic skin-color standard ...

Giving gully detection a HAND

2022
<p>Gully erosion affects land and water resources, resulting in serious environmental and socio-economic consequences. To aid mitigation and rehabilitation efforts, gully susceptibility mapping of broader gully-prone regions should be augmented by the rapid detection of existing gully features. Numerous works have been published on (semi-)

Hand detection using facial information

2016 IEEE 6th International Conference on Consumer Electronics - Berlin (ICCE-Berlin), 2016
This paper presents a robust hand detection algorithm using the facial information. The proposed algorithm consists of four steps: (i) detection of a face, (ii) generation of regions of interest (ROI) to detect hands, (iii) skin color extraction from the face region, and (iv) detection of hands using the face skin color in the ROI.

Detection of Osteoarthritis from Multimodal Hand Data

2022 44th Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society (EMBC), 2022
Osteoarthritis (OA) describes a degenerative joint disorder that is prevalent among older people and typically results in swollen and inflamed joints. The aim of this paper is to develop a method using images, videos and thermal data of 100 patients taken at Keio University Hospital to detect OA in hands. By using hand pose estimation on the video data,

Template-Based Hand Detection and Tracking

2005
Within this paper a technique for model-based 3D hand tracking is presented. A hand model is built from a set of truncated quadrics, approximating the anatomy of a real hand with few parameters. Given that the projection of a quadric onto the image plane is a conic, the contours can be generated efficiently.

Robust hand detection in Vehicles

2016 23rd International Conference on Pattern Recognition (ICPR), 2016
The problems of hand detection have been widely addressed in many areas, e.g. human computer interaction environment, driver behaviors monitoring, etc. However, the detection accuracy in recent hand detection systems are still far away from the demands in practice due to a number of challenges, e.g.

Hand gesture pointing location detection

Optik, 2014
Abstract Gesture recognition has been implemented in many systems for different purposes. The way it is used can be different from system to system. Few used them as touch objects using sensors while few use them as pointing object where the camera is in front of the hand, but the location is being pointed by human, can be detected only if the camera

Hand detection for virtual touchpad

Proceedings of the 2011 International Conference on Electrical Engineering and Informatics, 2011
There are many different kinds of pointing devices for interaction between human and computer. One of the most used and developed pointing devices is the mouse. However, traditional mouse has a limited degree of controls. Another device is the touchpad, the counterpart of the mouse that is usually embedded on laptops.
