Coming clean on hand hygiene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Introduction: Hand hygiene is universally recognized as one of the most effective ways to reduce the cross-transmission of hospital acquired infections. Successful strategies to improve hand hygiene compliance require a baseline knowledge of hand hygiene

Electroactive Metal–Organic Frameworks for Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 43, 29 May 2026.
Electrocatalysis is crucial in sustainable energy conversion as it enables efficient chemical transformations. The review discusses how metal–organic frameworks can revolutionize this field by offering tailorable structures and active site tunability, enabling efficient and selective electrocatalytic processes.

Disinfection of the Hands of Surgeons and Nurses [PDF]

open access: yesBMJ, 1960
The hands of the nurse and the surgeon are undoubtedly two of the chief vectors of hospital infection. They often carry pathogenic organisms, in particular Staphylococcus aurelus, which may be present in large numbers. Price (1938) has shown that scrubbing with soap and water for six minutes will reduce the numbers Df bacteria on the hands by only ...

Neutrophil‐Mimetic MRI Enables Ultra‐Early Detection of Vascular Inflammation After Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed neutrophil‐mimetic MRI probes that detect ultra‐early neuroinflammation following ischemic stroke by targeting E‐selectin. Within seconds of their injection, these microparticles mimic initial leukocyte adhesion to the activated cerebral endothelium.

Where do hands go? An audit of sequential hand-touch events on a hospital ward

open access: yes, 2012
Reservoirs of pathogens could establish themselves at forgotten sites on a ward, posing a continued risk for transmission to patients via unwashed hands.

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.

Hand hygiene in emergencies: Multiprofessional perceptions from a mixed methods based online survey in Germany

open access: yesInternational Journal of Nursing Studies Advances
Introduction: Despite high vulnerability to infection, hand disinfection compliance in emergencies is low. This is regularly justified as the disinfection procedure delays life support, and instead, wearing disposable gloves is preferred.

Beyond Presumptions: Toward Mechanistic Clarity in Metal‐Free Carbon Catalysts for Electrochemical H2O2 Production via Data Science

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐free carbon catalysts enable the sustainable synthesis of hydrogen peroxide via two‐electron oxygen reduction; however, active site complexity continues to hinder reliable interpretation. This review critiques correlation‐based approaches and highlights the importance of orthogonal experimental designs, standardized catalyst passports ...
