Development of an integrated digital hand grip dynamometer and norm of hand grip strength

open access: yesBio-Medical Materials and Engineering, 2015
Abstract This study designs and fabricates a novel integrated digital hand grip dynamometer and analyzes collected grip strength data. The dynamometer directly stores collected data in a computer, unlike those on the market that cannot directly store information. A strain gauge load cell is used as a force sensor.

Dietary Protein Intake and Peritoneal Protein Losses in Peritoneal Dialysis Patients

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients lose protein in their waste dialysate, potentially increasing their risk for malnutrition. We wished to determine whether there was any association between losses and dietary protein intake (DPI). Methods DPI was assessed from 24‐h dietary recall using Nutrics software.

Rare genetic variants impact muscle strength

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Muscle strength is highly heritable and predictive for multiple adverse health outcomes including mortality. Here, we present a rare protein-coding variant association study in 340,319 individuals for hand grip strength, a proxy measure of muscle ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Strength and reaction time capabilities of New Zealand polo players and their association with polo playing handicap [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Polo is an equestrian team sport consisting of four players per team, with level of play determined by cumulative player handicap (-2 to + 10 goals), with a higher handicap denoting a better player. There is minimal literature investigating Polo players’

The Telehealth Skills, Training, and Implementation Project: An evaluation protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
External stabilization is reported to improve reliability of hand held dynamometry, yet this has not been tested in burns. We aimed to assess the reliability of dynamometry using an external system of stabilization in people with moderate burn injury and

Hand Grip Strength Differences in Geriatric Subjects with and without Hand Diseases

open access: yesProgress in Rehabilitation Medicine, 2023
The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of untreated hand diseases on hand grip strength, a value that is commonly used as a diagnostic parameter for sarcopenia and frailty in geriatric populations. We hypothesized that individuals with untreated hand diseases would have lower grip strength than those without hand diseases.A total of 240 ...
