Comparative efficacy of herbicides and hand weeding to control weeds in onion

Indian Journal of Weed Science, 2020
Effective and efficient weed management strategies are essential to raise a successful onion crop. Therefore, to find out the economically feasible weed management practice, a field experiment was conducted at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, Jammu, during 2015–16 and 2016–17. Five herbicides namely pendimethalin1.0 kg/

Effects of weed abundance and frequency of hand weeding on the establishment of transplanted Imperata cylindrica

Landscape and Ecological Engineering, 2019
Imperata cylindrica is an important component of grasslands in several Asian countries. Its vigorous rhizome elongation enables the plant to quickly cover bare ground, making it a candidate for revegetation projects. In these projects, initial and subsequent management practices often differ.

Effects of Hand Weeding Strip and Nitrogen Fertilizer on Corn Plants

Journal of Environmental Science and Health, Part B: Pesticides, Food Contaminants, and Agricultural Wastes, 2005
The objective of the present research was to evaluate effects of different strip weed control associated with nitrogen fertilizer on corn applied after planting. The experiment was set and conducted in Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil, and the hybrid planted was Dekalb 333-B.

It’s All Hands on Deck in the Battle Against Herbicide‐Resistant Weeds

Crops & Soils, 2023
AbstractWhile we know herbicide resistance is an inevitable fate in a system that relies heavily on herbicides, we can work together to focus on long‐term strategies to delay its development and spread. Managing for a single year is a key reason why we are in the situation we are in today. A review of how herbicide resistance issues developed over time

Weed Control Economics in Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum) with Napropamide and Hand Weeding

Weed Technology, 1994
Field studies were conducted in 1990 and 1991 at Davis and Five Points, CA to evaluate weed control with napropamide and hand-weeding and the effect on yield and profitability in transplanted bell pepper. Weed cover 8 wk after transplanting averaged less than 10% in plots hand-weeded biweekly for 6 wk after transplanting. Weed cover at harvest was less

A prototype hand-held patch sprayer for killing weeds, activated by spectral differences in crop/weed canopies

Journal of Agricultural Engineering Research, 1983
Abstract A sensor which detects the presence of green vegetation against a brown background, has been fitted to an Oxford precision sprayer so as to activate the sprayer whenever the nozzle passes over patches of weeds. The operation of the sensor depends on measuring the radiance ratio of red (R) and near-infrared (IR) of the form (R + IR)/IR.

Response of Tetragonolobus palaestinus Boiss to several frequencies of hand weeding

Acta Agronomica Hungarica, 2002
Field trials were conducted during the 1999 and 2000 growing seasons at Houfa, in northern Jordan, to study the effect of time of weed removal on the growth and yield of Tetragonolobus palaestinus Boiss. Removing weeds from 30 to 90 days after seeding (DAS) led to significantly larger yields than in plots which were not weeded.

Evaluation of a hand-held burner for the control of woody weeds by flaming

Australian Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 2004
A hand-held burner (Atarus Ranger) was evaluated as a method for controlling woody weeds by flaming in sensitive or riparian areas where traditional methods, such as chemical or mechanical control, have limited usefulness. The equipment was trialled on 3 North Queensland weed species: bellyache bush ( Jatropha gossypiifolia ), parkinsonia ( Parkinsonia

Perennial Crop Nurseries Treated with Methyl Bromide and Alternative Fumigants: Effects on Weed Seed Viability, Weed Densities, and Time Required for Hand Weeding

Weed Technology, 2008
Data on the efficacy of alternative fumigants to methyl bromide for weed control in perennial crop nurseries in California are needed because few herbicides are registered for this purpose. Field studies were conducted from 2003 to 2006 in four commercial perennial crop nurseries in California. Treatments included a nonfumigated control; methyl bromide

EXPERIMENTS IN HAND‐WEEDING OF CONIFER SEEDBEDS IN FOREST NURSERIES

Weed Research, 1961
Summary. In 3 years and in three nurseries, experimental plots sown with conifer seed were weeded by hand at intervals from 1½ to 12 weeks. Assessments of the seedlings at the end of each year showed a reduction in numbers and height only on plots left for 12 weeks between successive weedings.
