An unconstrained handwriting recognition system

International Journal on Document Analysis and Recognition, 2002
In this paper, an integrated offline recognition system for unconstrained handwriting is presented. The proposed system consists of seven main modules: skew angle estimation and correction, printed-handwritten text discrimination, line segmentation, slant removing, word segmentation, and character segmentation and recognition, stemming from the ...

A Structure for Adaptive Handwriting Recognition

2012 International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2012
We present an adaptive approach to the recognition of handwritten mathematical symbols, in which a recognition weight is associated with each training sample. The weight is computed from the distance to a test character in the space of coefficients of functional approximation of symbols.

A handwriting recognition system for the classroom

Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Learning Analytics And Knowledge, 2015
The Xerox Ignite™ Educator Support System (henceforth referred to simply as Ignite™) is a data collection, analysis, and visualization workflow and software solution to assist K-12 educators. To illustrate, suppose a third-grade teacher wants to know how well her class has grasped a lesson on fractions.

Online handwriting recognition-a survey

[1988 Proceedings] 9th International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2003
The state of the art of online handwriting recognition is surveyed based on an extensive review of the literature. Shape recognition algorithms, preprocessing and postprocessing techniques, experimental systems, and commercial products are examined. It is found that online recognizers, except for bar-code readers and other specialized equipment, are ...

Handwriting recognition-the last frontiers

Proceedings 15th International Conference on Pattern Recognition. ICPR-2000, 2002
The last frontiers of handwriting recognition are considered to have started in the last decade of the second millennium. The paper summarizes (a) the nature of the problem of handwriting recognition, (b) the state of the art of handwriting recognition at the turn of the new millennium, and (c) the results of CENPARMI researchers in automatic ...

Recognition of writers by handwriting images

Pattern Recognition, 1981
Abstract The objective of this paper is the automatic identification of individual persons by means of their handwriting images. The image, digitized by a computer-controlled TV-camera, is analyzed in two different ways. In terms of the writing process, it is first interpreted as a set of lines, which have to be reconstructed by methods of scene ...

Numerical recognition of unconstrained handwriting

IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
This paper investigates the collaboration of three numeral recognition techniques that will detect unconstrained handwritten numerals. Our research focuses on a feature-based approach, a method using eigenimages, and a structural analysis approach using wavelet transforms.

Gesture Recognition Techniques in Handwriting Recognition Application

2010 12th International Conference on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2010
Handwriting-gesture recognition has been widely implemented in handwriting input application. Usually, gestures are used to conduct edit operations or be set as short-cut of an application. In this paper, we compare several handwriting-gesture recognition methods, and address their different user cases. These methods include pixel-matching method, rule

Rejection measures for handwriting sentence recognition

Proceedings Eighth International Workshop on Frontiers in Handwriting Recognition, 2003
In this paper we study the use of confidence measures for an on-line handwriting recognizer. We investigate various confidence measures and their integration in an isolated word recognition system as well as in a sentence recognition system. In isolated word recognition tasks, the rejection mechanism is designed in order to reject the outputs of the ...
