Molten Flux Synthesis of Plutonium (IV) Silicates K2PuSi2O7 and Rb2PuSi6O15

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 27, Issue 36, December 20, 2024.
K2PuSi2O7 and Rb2PuSi6O15 were synthesized using a molten flux technique and structurally characterized using both single crystal X‐ray diffraction and Raman analysis. The structure and reaction conditions of these compounds were compared to other reported alkali MIV silicates found in the literature, where M=Pu, Ce, U, and Th.

Environmental status of the Hanford Reservation for December 1966. (Annual summary) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1967
Data are summarized on levels of radioactivity in environmental samples collected at Hanford during 1966, including detailed data on samples collected during December. Data are included on the radioactivity in fallout from Chinese and Russian nuclear weapons test, samples of drinking water and Columbia River water, the /sup 56/Mn content of Columbia ...

Contaminated sites and Indigenous peoples in Canada and the United States: A scoping review

open access: yesIntegrated Environmental Assessment and Management, Volume 20, Issue 5, Page 1306-1329, September 2024.
Abstract Indigenous communities are disproportionately exposed to contaminated sites, and this poses unique challenges as many Indigenous peoples consider land as an integral part of their culture and economy. This scoping review aimed to identify and map information on contaminated sites and Indigenous peoples in Canada and the United States, namely ...

Experimental laboratory models as tools for understanding modifiable dementia risk

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 20, Issue 6, Page 4260-4289, June 2024.
Abstract Experimental laboratory research has an important role to play in dementia prevention. Mechanisms underlying modifiable risk factors for dementia are promising targets for dementia prevention but are difficult to investigate in human populations due to technological constraints and confounds.

Parabolic dune distribution, morphology and activity during the last 20 000 years: A global overview

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 49, Issue 1, Page 117-146, January 2024.
Parabolic dunes are ubiquitous on Earth and are particularly sensitive to climate changes. This global review presents a valuable database for predicting their future development. It shows that global atmospheric circulation governed their morphology and migration direction, thus aiding predictions and providing insights into paleoclimate conditions ...

Raptorial birds of the U.S.A.E.C. Hanford Reservation, south-central Washington [PDF]

open access: yes, 1973
Over 50 nesting pairs of raptorial birds were found on the U. S. Atomic Energy- Commission's Hanford Reservation in south-central Washington during 17 man-days afield in 1973. (auth)

Sample descriptions and summary logs of selected wells within the Hanford Reservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
As part of a program aimed at quantifying the hydraulic parameters of the synthetic flow systems of the Hanford Reservation a systematic study was made of the samples from selected wells. This report presents the description and summary logs of cuttings samples from 114 wells and test holes drilled within the Hanford Reservation.

HEATER TEST PLANNING FOR THE NEAR SURFACE TEST FACILITY AT THE HANFORD RESERVATION [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The underground test facility NSTF being constructed at Gable Mountain, is the site for a group of experiments designed to evaluate the thermo-mechanical suitability of a deep basalt stratum as a permanent repository for nuclear waste. Thermo-mechanical modeling was performed to help design the instrumentation arrays for the three proposed heater tests

Transmissivity and hydraulic conductivity of saturated sedimentary rocks in the Hanford Reservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
The sedimentary rocks of the Pasco Basin include glaciofluviatile deposits and the Ringold Formation. They may also include sedimentary rocks interbedded with the basalts. In terms of the ground-water flow continuum these rocks are divided into the unsaturated zone, the upper dominantly coarse-clastic part of the zone of saturation and the lower ...

Ecological aspects of decommissioning and decontamination of facilities on the Hanford Reservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The Hanford environment and biota are described in relation to decommissioning of obsolescent facilities contaminated with low-levels of radioactive materials. The aridity at Hanford limits both the productivity and diversity of biota. Both productivity and diversity are increased when water is added, as for example on the margins of ponds.
