Abstract Hans Jonas (1903-1993) was born in a small town in Germany. In the 1920s, he studied philosophy and theology at the University of Freiburg under the world famous philosopher Martin Heidegger and the well-known theologian Rudolf Bultmann. In 1928, he received his doctorate summa cum laude from the University of Marburg.
