Network Structure Explains the Impact of Attitudes on Voting Decisions [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 7, 4909 (2017), 2017
Attitudes can have a profound impact on socially relevant behaviours, such as voting. However, this effect is not uniform across situations or individuals, and it is at present difficult to predict whether attitudes will predict behaviour in any given circumstance. Using a network model, we demonstrate that (a) more strongly connected attitude networks

Real-Time Dynamics of Typical and Untypical States in Non-Integrable Systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 97, 174430 (2018), 2018
For a class of typical states, the real-time and real-space dynamics of non-equilibrium density profiles has been recently studied for integrable models, i.e. the spin-1/2 XXZ chain [PRB 95, 035155 (2017)] and the Fermi-Hubbard chain [PRE 96, 020105 (2017)].

Magnetization and energy dynamics in spin ladders: Evidence of diffusion in time, frequency, position, and momentum [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. B 99, 144422 (2019), 2018
The dynamics of magnetization and energy densities are studied in the two-leg spin-1/2 ladder. Using an efficient pure-state approach based on the concept of typicality, we calculate spatio-temporal correlation functions for large systems with up to 40 lattice sites.

Exponential damping induced by random and realistic perturbations [PDF]

open access: yesPhys. Rev. E 101, 062133 (2020), 2019
Given a quantum many-body system and the expectation-value dynamics of some operator, we study how this reference dynamics is altered due to a perturbation of the system's Hamiltonian. Based on projection operator techniques, we unveil that if the perturbation exhibits a random-matrix structure in the eigenbasis of the unperturbed Hamiltonian, then ...

Asymptotics for 1D Klein-Gordon equations with variable coefficient quadratic nonlinearities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We initiate the study of the asymptotic behavior of small solutions to one-dimensional Klein-Gordon equations with variable coefficient quadratic nonlinearities. The main discovery in this work is a striking resonant interaction between specific spatial frequencies of the variable coefficient and the temporal oscillations of the solutions.

Aharonov-Bohm interference and phase-coherent surface-state transport in topological insulator rings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
We present low-temperature magnetotransport measurements on selectively-grown Sb$_2$Te$_3$-based topological insulator ring structures. These topological insulator ring geometries display clear Aharonov-Bohm oscillations in the conductance originating from phase-coherent transport around the ring. The temperature dependence of the oscillation amplitude

BCS, Nambu-Jona-Lasinio, and Han-Nambu -- A sketch of Nambu's works in 1960-1965 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The years of 1960-1965 were a remarkable period for Yoichiro Nambu. Starting with a reformulation of BCS theory with emphasis on gauge invariance, he recognized the realization of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in particle physics as is evidenced by the Goldberger-Treiman relation.

Quantum interference structures in trapped ion dynamics beyond the Lamb-Dicke and rotating wave approximations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We apply wave packet methods to study an ion-trap system in the strong excitation regime imposing neither the rotating wave nor the Lamb-Dicke approximations. By this approach we show the existence of states with restricted phase space evolution, as a genuine consequence of quantum interference between wave packet fractions.
