Antibody levels to hantavirus in inhabitants of western Santa Catarina State, Brazil

open access: yesRevista do Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, 2012
Hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome (HCPS) is an infectious disease caused by hantaviruses of the family Bunyaviridae, and is transmitted by aerosols of excreta of infected rodents.

Serological evidence of human hantavirus infections in Guinea, West Africa.

open access: yesJournal of Infectious Diseases, 2010
We recently discovered a novel hantavirus, Sangassou virus, in Guinea, West Africa. Using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays followed by confirmatory and serotyping assays, we retrospectively detected hantavirus antibodies in 3 (4.4%) of 68 patients with

Proposed Relationships Between Climate, Biological Soil Crusts, Human Health, and in Arid Ecosystems

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 9, Issue 1, January 2025.
Abstract Biological soil crusts (or biocrust) are diminutive soil communities with ecological functions disproportionate to their size. These communities are composed of lichens, bryophytes, cyanobacteria, fungi, liverworts, and other microorganisms.

A new model of Hantaan virus persistence in mice: the balance between HTNV infection and CD8+ T-cell responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We established a viral persistence model that involves the adoptive transfer of spleen cells from immunocompetent mice (H-2d) into Hantaan virus (HTNV)-infected severe combined immunodeficient (SCID, H-2d) mice.

Hantavirus Infection in Humans and Rodents, Northwestern Argentina

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2003
We initiated a study to elucidate the ecology and epidemiology of hantavirus infections in northern Argentina. The northwestern hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS)–endemic area of Argentina comprises Salta and Jujuy Provinces.

Heat‐induced kidney disease: Understanding the impact

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 297, Issue 1, Page 101-112, January 2025.
Abstract Research on Mesoamerican Nephropathy, chronic kidney disease of unknown cause and chronic kidney disease of nontraditional cause has been going on for more than 20 years. Thousands of manual workers, especially in agriculture, are affected. The disease has been reported in different countries and regions, not only from heat‐stressed sugarcane ...

Study of hantavirus infection in captive breed colonies of wild rodents

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2004
Wild sigmondontine rodents are known to be the reservoir of several serotypes of New World hantaviruses. The mechanism of viral transmission is by aerosol inhalation of the excreta from infected rodents.

Fatal Liver Failure After Herpes‐Simplex‐Virus‐2‐Induced Acute Necrotizing Hepatitis: A Case Report

open access: yesCase Reports in Hepatology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections are common in the European population, typically presenting with mucocutaneous and anogenital manifestations. However, disseminated infections and organ involvement are rare, usually occurring in immunocompromised individuals, particularly after hematopoietic stem cell or solid organ transplantation. HSV1/2‐induced

Hantavirus Infection in SCID Mice.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1997
Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) mice were inoculated with Hantaan virus strain 76-118 (HTN) or Seoul virus strain SR-11 (SR) of hantaviruses. Susceptibility of SCID mice was compared with those of immunocompetent adult mice, newborn mice and nude mice. SCID mice inoculated with HTN or SR died 32 to 35 days after infection.
