Epizootic and Enzootic Aspects of Minchinia nelsoni (Haplosporida) Disease in Maryland Oysters
The Journal of Protozoology, 1975SYNOPSIS. Minchinia nelsoni disease in oysters (Crassostrea virginica) from Marumsco Bar, Pocomoke Sound, Maryland (an estuarine tributary of Chesapeake Bay) was studied for 8 years (1961–68) to determine epizootiologic relationships concerning life cycle of the parasite, pathologic effects on the host, and effects of physical factors on population ...

Minchinia nelsoni (Haplosporida) Disease Syndrome in the American Oyster Crassostrea virginica
The Journal of Protozoology, 1968SYNOPSIS. Minchinia nelsoni disease was studied in 3 populations of oysters from Marumsco Bar, Pocomoke Sound, Maryland. The native population was sampled regularly beginning in 1961 shortly after the disease invaded this area. Two populations of healthy year‐old oysters were introduced (one in 1965 and one in 1966) into Pocomoke Sound and studied ...

Abstract A cytochemical study of the spore of Haplosporidium lusitanicum, a haplosporidian parasite recently found in Helcion pellucidus, is described. Cytochemical analysis with Sudan Black B at the light microscope level revealed that the vesicle-like droplets (VLD) situated in the apical and basal zones of the endosporoplasm in close contact with ...

The fine structure of maturing spores of a haplosporidian parasite found in the gill, mantle and foot tissues of Ruditapes decussatus L. (Mollusca, Bivalvia), a species of commercial importance in Portugal, is described. When observed free in suspension, immature spores exhibit one or two epispore cytoplasmic extensions (ECE) which constitute a ...

SYNOPSIS. A developmental sequence is proposed for the haplosporidan Minchinia nelsoni Haskin, Stauber and Mackin, 1966, based on study of oyster infections over the past 5 years in Chesapeake Bay. Uninucleate stages develop by nuclear division into multinucleate plasmodia which proliferate in the tissues by plasmotomy.

Minchinia armoricana sp. nov. (Haplosporida), a parasite of the European flat oyster, Ostrea edulis
Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1977Abstract Examination of European flat oysters, Ostrea edulis , from the Dutch oyster culture, but originating in France, revealed a new disease due to a protistan parasite. Light and electron microscope studies revealed that the parasite belongs to the haplosporidan genus Minchinia . Since comparison with other Minchinia spp.
