Image-based haptic texture rendering

Proceedings of the 9th ACM SIGGRAPH Conference on Virtual-Reality Continuum and its Applications in Industry, 2010
In this paper, we present a new image-based method to display haptic texture information extracted from a static two dimensional image. The three dimensional forces allow the user to feel the contours and textures of the image with sufficient realism using haptic devices.

Haptic Rendering of Compliant Shapes

IEEE Transactions on Robotics, 2015
Dynamically controlling the shape of an object by means of a 3-D shape interface offers many new opportunities in the fields of virtual reality and design as direct exploration of objects becomes feasible. Using a parallel kinematics as 3-D shape interface comes with features such as high stiffness and speed, but requires a series of points to be ...

Evaluation of Haptic Rendering Methods

2014
Performance evaluation of haptic rendering algorithms is an important topic for measuring the fidelity of haptic simulation. In this chapter, we first briefly survey the progress in this field and then introduce a measurement-based method to evaluate the accuracy of different 6-DoF haptic rendering algorithms in interactions involving multi-region ...

Magnetorheological Brake for Haptic Rendering

2008
This paper addresses the design and characterization of a single-disk magnetorheological fluid brake developed for haptic rendering. An analytical method was used for dimensioning. Brake is tested under constant current and velocity inputs. We observe that torque has a low dependence on velocity and that it has a hysteretic evolution with current as a ...

Haptic Rendering of Tissue Cutting with Scissors

2004
Current surgical simulations that involve cutting with scissors lack display of forces “between the fingers” of the operator. The objective of this work is to develop a fast, realistic haptic rendering technique for scissor cutting that can be easily integrated into soft tissue models commonly used in surgical simulators.
