Haptoglobin and malaria

open access: yesRedox Report, 2001
Haptoglobin gene knockout mice and wild-type controls were infected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA or Plasmodium chabaudi. The peak parasitaemia and parasite burden were higher in Hp-/- mice than in Hp+/+ mice. The increase in spleen weight following malaria infection was smaller in Hp-/- mice than in Hp+/+ animals.

Arterial haptoglobin : expression, regulation and function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Several studies have demonstrated that collagen turnover is important during arterial restructuring. However, the precise mediators involved in collagen turnover are still not known.

Haptoglobin binding to apolipoprotein A-I prevents damage from hydroxyl radicals on its stimulatory activity of the enzyme lecithin-cholesterol acyl-transferase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Apolipoprotein A-I (ApoA-I), a major component of HDL, binds Haptoglobin, a plasma protein transporting to liver or macrophages free Hb for preventing hydroxyl radical production. This work aimed to assess whether Haptoglobin protects ApoA-I against this

Determination of Reference Intervals for Selected Liver Biomarkers With Focus on Pre‐ and Postanalytical Factors in Lactating Dairy Cattle

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Measurement of liver enzymes and metabolites for both clinically healthy and sick cattle is a routine part of dairy herd management. Reference intervals (RIs) are influenced by many variables, including pregnancy, breeding, and geographical variables, and can shift over time.

Intestinal epithelial injury and inflammation after physical work in temperate and hot environments in older men with hypertension or type 2 diabetes

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract We tested whether older adults with well‐controlled type 2 diabetes or hypertension, compared with age‐matched adults without chronic disease, exhibit greater intestinal damage, microbial translocation and inflammation during exertional heat stress.

Polymorphism of serum transferrin in cod [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Sera from 682 cod from six different localities along the Norwegian coast and in the Barents Sea have been investigated by starch/agar gel electrophoresis. Eleven different patterns composed by five molecular types have been found.

Structural basis for inflammation-driven shedding of CD163 ectodomain and tumor necrosis factor-α in macrophages

open access: yes, 2013
The haptoglobin-hemoglobin receptor CD163 and proTNF-α are transmembrane macrophage proteins subjected to cleavage by the inflammation-responsive protease ADAM17. This leads to release of soluble CD163 (sCD163) and bioactive TNF-α. Sequence comparison of

Haptoglobin frequencies in Jewish communities * [PDF]

open access: yes, 1962
Haptoglobin and transferrin types have been determined by starch gel electrophoresis on blood from 929 subjects belonging to various Jewish communities. The frequency of the Hp 1 gene in 499 Ashkenazic Jews is 0.29 and does not differ significantly from ...
