Contaminant analyses of harbor porpoises
Altogether, 22 porpoises were analyzed for organochlorines (PCBs DDTs, HCHs, HCB), PBDEs, HBCDD and CPs in blubber, and 23 porpoises for PFAS and OTCs in liver, and metals and Se in muscle and liver, and SI (d13C and d15N) in muscle. The animals were divided into four groups: animals originating from the North Sea Population area (juveniles and adults)

Regular Presence of Harbor Porpoises in the Northern Alborán Sea
ABSTRACTThe harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) in the Atlantic waters of Spain and Portugal are a genetically differentiated population from the rest of the North Atlantic. They are rarely seen on the southern Atlantic coast of Spain and are thought to be extinct in the Mediterranean Sea, with scattered sightings and strandings recorded along the ...

The effects of visual impediment on the approaching behavior of harbor porpoise, Phocoena phocoena [PDF]
Studies on odontocetes (e.g., porpoises) have revealed that these animals may adaptively use vision. The present study examined the contributions of vision to the approaching behavior of the harbor porpoise (Phocoena phocoena). When a porpoise approached

An investigation of factors related to the bycatch of small cetaceans in fishing gear
The bycatch of cetaceans in fishing gear is considered to be one of the biggest conservation threats to these species. Gear modifications have the potential to reduce these bycatches in global fisheries but there is little available information on how ...
