Diffuse Muscular Degeneration in Captive Harbor Seals
Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 1972SUMMARY Three juvenile harbor seals in captivity for 2 months developed an illness manifested as anorexia, reluctance to move, and an arched posture. Necropsy revealed diffuse muscular degeneration characterized by swollen, hyalinized, fragmented fibers. The cause of the muscle degeneration was not determined.

Pelage polymorphism in Pacific harbor seals
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1981Regional variation in the percentages of harbor seals, Phoca vitulina, in light- and dark-phase pelages has been reported recently. Distributions of color phases among sex classes and age-classes and within family groups were examined during two pupping seasons on Tugidak Island and one season on Otter Island, Alaska.
