Thermal Behavior of Frictional Properties on Ultra-Thin Perfluoropolyether Lubricant Film

open access: yesTribology Online, 2016
We investigate the thermal behavior of the friction property of ultra-thin perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant film on diamond-like carbon (DLC) overcoats of magnetic disks.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

The 2009 analysis of information remaining on USB storage devices offered for sale on the second hand market [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The use of the USB storage device, also known as the USB drive, a thumb drive, a keychain drive and a flash drive has, for the most part, replaced the floppy disk and to some extent the Compact Disk (CD), the DVD (Digital Video Disk or Digital Versatile ...

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Frequency Analysis of Hard Disk Drive Spindle System Supported by Hydrodynamic Bearings

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2007
Herringbone-grooved hydrodynamic bearings are now being applied to hard disk drive (HDD) spindle motors instead of ball bearings for demand for HDDs with larger storage capacities, faster access times, and reduced sizes.

Tribological Performance of 60NiTi Alloy Under Varying Contact Conditions and Elevated Temperatures in Linear Reciprocating Sliding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the tribological response of 60NiTi alloy under dry, water‐lubricated and high‐temperature conditions. The alloy exhibits decreasing wear volume and friction with increasing temperature due to the formation of protective oxide layers. The work clarifies dominant wear mechanisms and demonstrates the suitability of 60NiTi for high‐

Optimum Design of Thrust Air Bearing for Hard Disk Drive Spindle Motor

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
This paper describes the application of geometry optimization method proposed by Hashimoto to the design of air lubricated thrust bearings used for HDD spindle motors. The optimization is carried out to maximize the dynamic stiffness of air films because

Sequential Randomized Algorithms for Convex Optimization in the Presence of Uncertainty [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper, we propose new sequential randomized algorithms for convex optimization problems in the presence of uncertainty. A rigorous analysis of the theoretical properties of the solutions obtained by these algorithms, for full constraint ...

3D‐Printed Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) Sensors Based on Self Compliant Springs

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores 3D‐printed GMR sensors utilizing self‐compliant spring structures and conductive PLA composites. By optimizing arm width, we achieved high piezoresistive (0.34%/mm) and magnetoresistive (0.77%/mT) sensitivities. Demonstrated through Bluetooth‐integrated pressure and magnetic position sensing, these full printed low‐cost, customizable
