FLOW VISUALIZATION OF HARD DISK DRIVE
Hard-disk drives are the most popular storage devices in modern PCs. Recently, for higher speed and higher capacity, the accurate positioning operation of read/write magnetic heads becomes required. As the inside flow often causes pressure and velocity fluctuations, more accurate research have been needed.

Dicarboxylate‐modified anionic hairy cellulose nanocrystals exhibit a high selectivity for dysprosium(III) over neodymium(III). This selectivity arises from disordered dicarboxylate cellulose “hairs” that enable cooperative ionic coordination, hydrogen bonding, and strain‐induced conformational shrinkage.

Architecture for Hard Disk Drives
Magnetic data storage has made rapid progress in terms of areal density over the past few decades. Current products have areal density levels that exceed 1012 bits per square inch, about 1000 times greater than areal densities of the mid-1990s. Five component technologies have become hard-disk-drive industry standards over the past two decades: read ...

An optimized carbon host nanostructure enables a dual‐interface‐dominant architecture in sulfur cathodes of solid‐state Li‐S batteries by selectively forming sulfur|carbon and sulfur|solid electrolyte interfaces. This tailored interfacial configuration accelerates sulfur redox kinetics by establishing enriched Li+/e– transport networks, while ...

Homogenization of the Equations Governing the Flow Between a Slider and a Rough Spinning Disk [PDF]
We have analyzed the behavior of the flow between a slider bearing and a hard-drive magnetic disk under two types of surface roughness. For both cases the length scale of the roughness along the surface is small as compared to the scale of the slider, so

Can holographic optical storage displace Hard Disk Drives?
Cloud data workloads require both high capacity at low cost and high access rates. Hard Disk Drives are the dominant media in this application as they are low cost, however, Hard Disk Drive technology is seeing declining access rates and a slowdown in ...

A Successful CFD-Based Solution to a Water Condensation Problem in a Hard Disk Drive Factory
This paper was intended as an article of a practical solution. The settings of a ventilation system for a production line in a hard disk drive (HDD) factory were inappropriate leading to a condensation problem in a work area causing the finished products

Bootbandit: A macOS Bootloader Attack [PDF]
Full disk encryption (FDE) is used to protect a computer system against data theft by physical access. If a laptop or hard disk drive protected with FDE is stolen or lost, the data remains unreadable without the encryption key.
