Equilibration of concentrated hard-sphere fluids [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2011
We report a systematic molecular dynamics study of the isochoric equilibration of hard-sphere fluids in their metastable regime close to the glass transition. The thermalization process starts with the system prepared in a non-equilibrium state with the desired final volume fraction but with a prescribed non-equilibrium static structure factor S_0(k;

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Depletion induced demixing in polydisperse mixtures of hard spheres

open access: yes, 1998
Polydisperse mixtures are those in which components with a whole range of sizes are present. It is shown that the fluid phase of polydisperse hard spheres is thermodynamically unstable unless the density of large spheres decreases at least exponentially ...

Multicomponent fluid of nonadditive hard spheres near a wall [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A recently proposed rational-function approximation [Phys. Rev. E \textbf{84}, 041201 (2011)] for the structural properties of nonadditive hard spheres is applied to evaluate analytically (in Laplace space) the local density profiles of multicomponent ...

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

Breaking the hard-sphere model with fluorite and antifluorite solid solutions

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Using the hard-sphere model with the existing tabulated values of ionic radii to calculate the lattice parameters of minerals does not always match experimental data. An adaptation of this crystallographic model is proposed by considering the cations and

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Nonmonotonic pressure as a function of the density in a fluid without attractive forces

open access: yesCondensed Matter Physics, 2013
A simple result for the pressure of a hard sphere fluid that was developed many years ago by Rennert is extended in a straightforward manner by adding additional terms that are of the same form as Rennert's formula. The resulting expression is moderately

Colloids, polymers, and needles: Demixing phase behavior

open access: yes, 2001
We consider a ternary mixture of hard colloidal spheres, ideal polymer spheres, and rigid vanishingly thin needles, which model stretched polymers or colloidal rods.
