For a ‘Scrap-it’ Brexit – 33 reasons why … and counting. CEPS Commentary, 18 July 2017 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The vocabulary of comments in the British media is beginning now to go beyond the ‘soft’, ‘hard’, ‘cliff-edge’ and ‘no deal’ Brexit, to include a ‘scrap-it’ Brexit.

Toy nanoindentation model and incipient plasticity

open access: yes, 2009
A toy model of two dimensional nanoindentation in finite crystals is proposed. The crystal is described by periodized discrete elasticity whereas the indenter is a rigid strain field of triangular shape representing a hard knife-like indenter.

3D‐Printed Giant Magnetoresistive (GMR) Sensors Based on Self Compliant Springs

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work explores 3D‐printed GMR sensors utilizing self‐compliant spring structures and conductive PLA composites. By optimizing arm width, we achieved high piezoresistive (0.34%/mm) and magnetoresistive (0.77%/mT) sensitivities. Demonstrated through Bluetooth‐integrated pressure and magnetic position sensing, these full printed low‐cost, customizable

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...

Social emotional skills (SES) among lecturers in relation students performance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Social emotional skills (SES) of a lecturer are considered to play a vital role towards student performance. Despite of the fact, when it comes to Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET), very little research is found on the importance and ...

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

FEA modeling of orthogonal cutting of steel: a review [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Orthogonal cutting is probably the most studied machining operation for metals. Its simulation with the Finite Element Analysis (FEA) method is of paramount academic interest.

Influence of an Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere on Diamond‐Single‐Grain Scratching of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Single‐grain scratching of Ti–6Al–4V is investigated under controlled, oxygen‐free, and ambient atmospheres using a novel experimental setup with in situ high‐speed imaging. The approach enables direct observation of chip formation and adhesion under suppressed oxidation.

Chip Formation Analysis During Hard Turning

open access: yesStrojarstvo : časopis za teoriju i praksu u strojarstvu, 2008
The paper deals with analysis of chip formation and related aspects of chip formation, like chip thickness, chip ratio, shear angle and chip segmentation during turning of hardened steel 100Cr6. The paper makes a comparison of some aspects of chip formation between turning annealed and hardened roll bearing steel 100Cr6.
