Recycled aggregates in concrete production: engineering properties and environmental impact

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
Recycled concrete aggregate is considered as the most abundant and used secondary aggregate in concrete production, other types of solid waste are also being used in concrete for specific purposes and to achieve some desired properties.

Nonplanar Bouligand Architectures for Enhanced Mechanical Performance in Cementitious Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by the impact region of the Mantis shrimp dactyl club, nonplanar additive manufacturing translates sinusoidal Bouligand architectures into cementitious composites. Printing‐induced anisotropy and architected interfaces promote distributed damage and arrest crack propagation, enhancing strength and energy absorption.

Slag-modified metakaolin-based geopolymer for 3D concrete printing application: Evaluating fresh and hardened properties

open access: yesCleaner Engineering and Technology, 2023
Extrusion-based 3D printing of a two-part metakaolin-based geopolymer concrete has a long setting time, which could lead to inadequate structural build-up.

Correlation of Rheological Properties to Durability and Strength of Hardened Concrete

open access: yesJournal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2003
Premature deterioration of concrete structures has created awareness and concern about the durability of concrete. Concrete mixtures used in the construction of residential basement walls and foundations have a high water to cement (w/c) ratio (w/c>0.6) and low cement content (

Synergistic Interfacial Regulation by Nano‐TiO2 and Carboxylated Cellulose Nanofibers for Multiscale Surface Stabilization of Cementitious Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nano‐TiO2 and carboxylated cellulose nanofibers jointly regulate hydration‐product distribution in cementitious composites. Improved microstructural continuity and refined pore structure accompany enhanced strength and surface stability without a substantial increase in overall hydration.

Physical Origin of Temperature Induced Activation Energy Switching in Electrically Conductive Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The temperature‐induced Arrhenius activation energy switching phenomenon of electrical conduction in electrically conductive cement originates from structural degradation within the biphasic ionic‐electronic conduction architecture and shows percolation‐governed characteristics: pore network opening dominates the low‐percolation regime with downward ...

Active Control of Properties of Fresh and Hardening Concrete

open access: yesRILEM Technical Letters
Concrete mixtures have an optimized mix design in view of attaining desired properties. However, after mixing, during further processing, it is typically not possible to further adjust the performance of the fresh and hardening concrete. A new and emerging approach is to actively control the concrete properties by means of responsive particles or ...

Sustainable Materials Design With Multi‐Modal Artificial Intelligence

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Critical mineral scarcity, high embodied carbon, and persistent pollution from materials processing intensify the need for sustainable materials design. This review frames the problem as multi‐objective optimization under heterogeneous, high‐dimensional evidence and highlights multi‐modal AI as an enabling pathway.

Multiferroic‐Centric Materials and Systems Engineering for Battery Applications: An Insight Into Mechanisms, Strategies, and Characterizations

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiferroic order parameters – polarization, magnetization, and ferroelastic strain – are positioned as dynamic design variables for batteries. Their mechanistic roles, practical tuning through fabrication and external fields, and ferroic‐resolved characterization routes are unified into a closed‐loop framework, revealing how coupled ferroic responses
