Experimental analysis of contact fatigue damage in case hardened gears for off-highway axles
Pitting is one of the main causes of failure in planetary gear sets of axles designed for agricultural vehicles. The high torque and the low wheel speed typical of such machines result in poor lubrication and promote the onset of contact fatigue ...

Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. To

This study uses in situ synchrotron X‐ray diffraction at the German Electron Synchrotron to analyze low‐pressure carburizing (LPC) in steels. The findings reveal surface carbon saturation and carbide formation kinetics, and phase‐specific stress development during quenching. The results show carbide kinetics depend on steel grade and size, while stress

High Nb (2.4 wt.%) addition to Maraging 300 steel drives lattice distortion and nanoscale Nb–Mo‐rich precipitation, confirmed by energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy mapping (Mo ~5.4 wt.%, Nb ~2.5 wt.%). Nanoindentation reveals strong matrix hardening (H >4.8 GPa) at 480°C aging, while 560°C induces ~1.92 vol.% reverted austenite, enabling tunable ...

Collaborating in future states—Contextual instability, paradigmatic remaking, and public policy
Abstract Collaboration is ubiquitous in public policy life, with its presence and profile determined by prevailing governance conditions. Commitments to globalisation and marketisation in the latter part of the 20th century marked the onset of an era defined by collaboration, between and across tiers and spheres of government, with non‐state actors ...

AGRICULTURE IN A SOCIALIST CITY: Towards an Alter‐Urban Political Ecology
Abstract Urban political ecology has developed as a critique of capitalist urbanization. This article develops the concept of alter‐urban political ecology to define urban environments emerging not from capitalist urbanization but from efforts to transform it. Drawing on archival research and ethnographic fieldwork in five urban farms in socialist Cuba,

Output Quality, Productivity, and Demand: Evidence from the Chinese Steel Industry
ABSTRACT Unobserved objective output quality complicates the analysis of firm productivity and demand because higher‐quality products entail higher costs but offer greater consumption benefits. Using a panel of firms with output quality data, we decompose quantity‐based productivity into fundamental productivity and the costs of quality, and separate ...

Procedure for selecting appropriate steels for machine design [PDF]
Selection of steels for industrial purposes usually means choosing a type of steel to make a part or a product. The steel that is chosen must meet all the designer requirements. A quantitative selection procedure has been used to analyze the large amount
