Continuous laser hardening with induction pre-heating [PDF]
A novel way of continuous surface hardening of steel bodies by a laser beam is modeled. This heat treatment is supplemented with pre-heating of the hardened parts by a classic inductor in order to reduce the temperature gradients and subsequent ...

Creep experiments at 900°C on coarse‐grained steel‐ceramic composites containing recycled magnesia reveal that higher ceramic volume fractions significantly enhance the creep resistance. Detailed EBSD investigations identify subgrain formation in the steel matrix as the dominant deformation mechanism.

Layer Approach to Model Fatigue Strength of Surface-Hardened Components
This paper deals with a surface-hardened forged steel that is commonly used for powertrain components like gears, axles or crankshafts. In order to increase static and fatigue strength and to minimise wear, surface treatments like induction hardening ...

Study on Tooth Interior Fatigue Fracture Failure of Wind Turbine Gears
Gear contact fatigue has becoming a bottleneck restricting the safety and reliability of wind turbine transmission systems. Tooth interior fatigue fracture (TIFF) failure is commonly observed in case-hardened wind turbine gears.

Hyperbolic hardening model for quasibrittle materials
Abstract In this study an elastoplastic hardening model for quasibrittle materials is presented. The yield surface exhibits hyperbolic meridians while its shape on the deviatoric plane is described by an elliptic function. The proposed hardening mechanism is controlled by the slope of the asymptotes of the hyperbolic meridians and thus by the ...

Thermodynamic topology optimization for hardening materials
Topology optimization is an important basis for the design of components. Here, the optimal structure is found within a design space subject to boundary conditions. Thereby, the specific material law has a strong impact on the final design. An important kind of material behavior is hardening: then a, for instance, linear-elastic structure is not ...

Investigation on different composition of powder metallurgy electrode (Cu-W) in high performance edm (HPEDM) on AISI D2 hardened steel [PDF]
The ideal selection of manufacturing conditions is one of the most important aspects to take into consideration in the majority of manufacturing processes and particularly in processes related to Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).

A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.
