Process Parameters Analysis of Laser Phase Transformation Hardening on the Raceway Surface of Shield Main Bearing

open access: yesPhotonics, 2023
The main bearing of the shield machine has a huge structure and severe service conditions, which are prone to wear and fatigue damage. To improve the anti-wear and anti-fatigue ability of the raceway surface of the shield main bearing, laser ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Hierarchical Structure Model of High Speed Milling Hardened Steel

open access: yes, 2011
In high speed milling hardened steel, cutting performance of cutter is uncertainty because hardness distribution and machining elements change. Based on the experiments of high speed milling hardened steel, the interaction among cutting force, cutting ...

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

CBN-micro-milling tools for machining hardened steel moulds

open access: yes, 2022
S.257-258High-precision cutting of hardened steel with geometrical defined cutting edge is restricted due to excessive and random tool wear. For serial production of precision plastic parts hot embossing tools and micro injection moulding tools with high

EFFECT OF HEAT TREATMENT ON THE TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF TOOL STEEL AND MOLD STEEL [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Egyptian Society of Tribology
Heat treatment is one of the most common processes done to metals due to its versatility. It can be used to make a material harder or more machinable according to the type of treatment done. Tool steel and mold steel are usually required to be machinable

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.
