Hardening functions for large scale distributed computations
Proceedings 19th International Conference on Data Engineering (Cat. No.03CH37405), 2004The past few years have seen the development of distributed computing platforms designed to utilize the spare processor cycles of a large number of personal computers attached to the Internet in an effort to generate levels of computing power normally achieved only with expensive supercomputers.

Beam Hardening Corrections in Quantitative Computed Tomography
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2007Volumetric computed tomography (VCT) is the emerging 3D NDE inspection technique that gives highest throughput and better image quality. Industrial components in general demands higher x‐ray energy for inspection for which polychromatic x‐ray sources are used in common.

Computer simulaton of induction hardening
2001The computer simulation of electromagnetic, thermodynamic and microstructural transformations in treated work-piece is usually recommended for the exact definition of working parameters in process planning of the induction hardening processes. A special simulation program has been developed for the axially symmetric work-pieces.

A beam-hardening correction using dual-energy computed tomography
Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1985The problems associated with beam hardening in X-ray transmission computed tomography (CT) have been described by Brooks and DiChiro (1976). These include the introduction of non-linear artefacts in CT images with corresponding errors of as high as 10% in CT measurements of the linear attenuation coefficient, thus severely limiting the use of CT in ...

Electron beam surface hardening utilizing computer control
Journal of Heat Treating, 1983Computer Controlled Electron Beam Machines, which are capable of precise beam placement and heat input, provide a means for localized surface hardening of steel. Minimal heat input to parts, which are selfquenched, reduces part distortion and eliminates post processing.

Computed tomography: beam hardening and environmental density artifact.
Radiology, 1983Phantoms designed to simulate cysts or avascular masses and other material encountered in computed tomographic (CT) body and head scanning were used to evaluate the effect of beam hardening in a GE CT/T 8800 scanner. The phantoms were scanned before and after the addition of iodinated contrast material to various compartments within the phantoms.

Computer process planning of induction hardening
2001Phases in setting up the induction hardening procedure have been discussed. For the exact definition of working parameters, computer simulation is recommended. For the axially symmetric work-pieces a special simulation program has been developed.

Radiation-hardened 32-bit single board computer
16th DASC. AIAA/IEEE Digital Avionics Systems Conference. Reflections to the Future. Proceedings, 2002Most of the cost for developing a computing solution for space and launch vehicles is in the development of the software. Thus, space-qualified computing hardware, supported by mature software development tools, is very desirable. Honeywell, under contract with the Air Force Rome Laboratory, has developed a radiation-hardened processor based on the ...

Computer Simulation of Single-Shot Induction Hardening Processes
Heat Treating Conference, 2017Abstract In single-shot hardening applications, heat treated components often feature a variety of geometric complexities including variable wall thicknesses, sharp diameter transitions, lightening holes, slots, etc. Due to the inherent 3D electromagnetic nature of single-shot coils and the complex geometry components which they must ...

Hardening OpenStack Cloud Platforms against Compute Node Compromises
Proceedings of the 11th ACM on Asia Conference on Computer and Communications Security, 2016Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) clouds such as OpenStack consist of two kinds of nodes in their infrastructure: control nodes and compute nodes. While control nodes run all critical services, compute nodes host virtual machines of customers. Given the large number of compute nodes, and the fact that they are hosting VMs of (possibly malicious ...
