ABSTRACT Previous studies on Cydia pomonella eggs have demonstrated reliable egg adhesion to the leaves and fruits of various apple cultivars. In contrast to biological substrates, this study is focused on standardised synthetic substrates to measure egg pull‐off forces and determine adhesive strength, allowing for an unbiased comparison with other ...

Ozonolysis of Lignin: From Extensive Degradation to Selective Ring‐Opening Oxidation
Despite its potential as a renewable feedstock, lignin, a major component of plant cell walls and a by‐product of the pulp and paper industry, has long been underutilized. Historically, pulp mills employed ozonolysis, a powerful oxidative process, to delignify cellulosic fibers and break down lignin.

Manufacturing process and mechanical testing of lignin polymer composites. ABSTRACT Lignin is a plant‐derived, the second most abundant natural polymer, and a waste byproduct of the pulp industry. Incorporation of lignin into plastic composites using scalable approaches is commercially favored and low carbon‐cost.

Depolymerisation of γ‐Valerolactone Organosolv Lignins with Unsupported Molybdenum‐Based Catalysts
Lignins from γ‐valerolactone organosolv fractionation were depolymerised in ethanol using unsupported molybdenum catalysts. Over 90% yields of low‐molecular‐weight lignin oil were obtained with minimal char formation, yields of the aromatic monomers being 7–16 wt%.

Growth performance in Quercus robur and Prunus avium is strongly influenced by site conditions, but also by functional traits (Specific Leaf Area, spring leaf‐out date), which show moderate plasticity in response to climate. These traits differ among provenances of the same species, and there is variability in trait values within the provenances.

White‐Tailed Deer Baiting Altered Black Bear Site Use but Not Movements or Range Size
Black bears (Ursus americanus) in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA visited sites more often and for longer durations following the application of bait targeting white‐tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus). However, black bear home ranges and movement rates were not influenced by the application of bait.

We assessed behaviors of female wild turkeys during the laying period and evaluated impacts of those behaviors on nest success and female survival. We found that increased movements during laying resulted in a decreased probability of nest success but an increased probability of female survival during incubation.
