The Return of the Poor Man: Jude the Obscure and Late Victorian Socialism

open access: yes, 2016
This essay examines Hardy\u27s decision at the end of his career as a novelist to return to the striking socialistic themes which had defined his first (unpublished) novel.

Ghost effect from Boltzmann theory

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 79, Issue 3, Page 558-675, March 2026.
Abstract Taking place naturally in a gas subject to a given wall temperature distribution, the “ghost effect” exhibits a rare kinetic effect beyond the prediction of classical fluid theory and Fourier law in such a classical problem in physics. As the Knudsen number ε$\varepsilon$ goes to zero, the finite variation of temperature in the bulk is ...

“This Is Legacy Cooking”: Black Women's Aesthetic Labor in Newberry County, South Carolina

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 58, Issue 2, 2026.
ABSTRACT Black women in the US South have carried forward the legacy culinary and care traditions of their mothers, grandmothers, and ancestors from Africa and the African diaspora. In this paper, we extend Katherine McKittrick's concept of aesthetic labor—the “music, groove, text, poem, photo” that make Black consciousness and life possible on its own

Convergence properties of dynamic mode decomposition for analytic interval maps

open access: yesCommunications on Pure and Applied Mathematics, Volume 79, Issue 2, Page 179-206, February 2026.
Abstract Extended dynamic mode decomposition (EDMD) is a data‐driven algorithm for approximating spectral data of the Koopman operator associated to a dynamical system, combining a Galerkin method with N$N$ functions and a quadrature method with M$M$ quadrature nodes.

Boundedness of the Hilbert Transform on Rearrangement Invariant Spaces

open access: yesRevista Integración
In this self-contained review, the aspects about the applications of decreasing rearrangement techniques to the analysis of pointwise estimates for the Hilbert transform are analyzed. We make a consistent revision of these techniques in the proof of the

On Hardy-Poincaré Inequalities

open access: yesJournal of Mathematical Sciences
We discuss simple and short proofs of identities that give the classical Poincaré and Hardy inequalities with sharp constants. These equalities directly imply characterization of nontrivial optimizers for the corresponding inequalities. Our proofs are independent of the polar coordinates in the integral and geometry of the domain.
