Probabilistic Neural Network for the Automated Identification of the Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia Axyridis)

2013
This paper describes recent work in the UK to automate the identification of Harlequin ladybird species Harmonia axyridis using color images. The automation process involves image processing and the use of probabilistic neural network PNN as classifier, with an aim to reduce the number of color images to be examined by entomologists through pre-sorting

A Field Guide to Harlequins and Other Common Ladybirds of Britain and Ireland

2021
The invasive Harlequin ladybird is an eye-catching and beautiful species, but it can be very difficult to identify, with huge variation in colouration and pattern. This comprehensive photographic field guide is the first complete guide to identifying Harlequin ladybirds found in Britain and Ireland. It also covers all the other 25 conspicuous ladybird

Species assemblages of ladybirds including the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis: a comparison at large spatial scale in urban habitats

BioControl, 2017
We evaluated the status of native ladybird assemblages in the presence of the non-native ladybird Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) in three European countries. To achieve this, we assessed the abundance of ladybirds from common host plants in urban areas of Great Britain, Czech Republic and Slovak Republic in 2014. We determined (i)

Response to Comments on “Invasive Harlequin Ladybird Carries Biological Weapons Against Native Competitors”

Science, 2013
Comments by de Jong et al ., Solter et al ., and Sloggett question the ecological relevance of the abundant microsporidia found in the invasive ladybird Harmonia axyridis . We contend that there is abundant evidence that native ladybirds feed on H. axyridis

Expansion of Harlequin Ladybird Harmonia axyridis Pall. (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) in Armenia

Russian Journal of Biological Invasions, 2019
Data on the expansion of the range of an invasive beetle species, harlequin ladybird (Harmonia axyridis Pall.), in Armenia are presented. The species was first recorded in 2016 in the extreme northwest of Armenia; however, in 2018, the species was found in several localities of Central Armenia and in the basin of Lake Sevan and its mass outbreak was ...

Invasion of the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) into Southeastern Kazakhstan

Entomological Review, 2015
The harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773) is one of the most famous invasive beetles in the world. A map of 105 findings of H. axyridis in Western Siberia, Kazakhstan, and northwestern China was compiled based on the examination of museum collections (about 1000 spec.) and analysis of the published data.

Polymorphism of the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Coleoptera, Coccinellidae) Baikal population

Entomological Review, 2013
The phenotypic composition of the Baikal population of the harlequin ladybird Harmonia axyridis (Pallas, 1773) was analyzed based on the material collected in Irkutsk Province in 2009–2010. Significant microgeographic phenotypic variation was revealed on the Baikal coast and in the city of Irkutsk.
