Nitrogen Substrate Impacts Microcystis aeruginosa Exometabolome Composition
We used untargeted metabolomics to identify differences in the compounds exuded into culture media by three strains of M. aeruginosa grown on three N substrate treatments (NO3−, NH4+, and urea). Results showed that the usage of different N substrates changes the exometabolome of toxic and non‐toxic strains of M. aeruginosa.

This study reveals that meta‐tyrosine (m‐Tyr), a nonproteinogenic analog of aromatic amino acids, disrupts protein synthesis and photosynthesis in cyanobacteria by being misincorporated by Phenylalanyl‐tRNA synthetase (PheRS) into essential proteins. Through molecular, biochemical, and proteomic analyses in Synechocystis, the research shows that m‐Tyr ...

Human induced harmful algal blooms
The occurrence of coastal harmful algal blooms (HABs) over the last several decades has become a worldwide environmental concern. Some of these HABs are caused by anthropo- genic nutritient pollution and can harm whole marine ecosystems which, in the worst cases, may become devoid of life.

Global Change Likely to Promote the Expansion of the Quagga Mussel (Dreissena bugensis) in Europe
ABSTRACT Aim Invasive aquatic species are a pressing concern for environmental managers due to their significant impacts and high eradication costs. The Ponto‐Caspian region is a notable source of aquatic invasive species, with over 40 invaders currently affecting freshwater ecosystems throughout Europe.
