Biotic control of harmful algal blooms (HABs): A brief review
The water bodies, mainly coastal and lake, remain tainted worldwide, mostly because of the Cyanobacteria harbored in Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). The main reason for the flourishing of blooms depends on the eutrophication. Blooms could be toxic as well as non-toxic, depending on the bloom-forming species.

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) are serious biological nuisances and become a global epidemic. This is primarily flagellate events, causing mass mortality, physiological impairment or other negative in situ effects. HABs are increasing their frequency, persistence, regional coverage/spatial extent and economic impact worldwide in recent decades as a result

Neurobehavioral effects of harmful algal bloom (HAB) toxins: A critical review
Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society, 2005Human exposure to naturally occurring marine toxins has been associated with a range of neurobehavioral abnormalities. The toxins are produced by harmful algal blooms (HABs) and are typically contracted through seafood consumption. The primary target of many of the HAB toxins is the neurologic system, and the neurobehavioral symptoms associated with ...

Qualification, species variety, and consequences of harmful algal blooms (HABs)
2012Life in marine, coastal, and inland water bodies is almost universally rooted in the biological conversion of light energy to chemical bond energy that is stored in the form of organic carbon compounds. This conversion, called photosynthesis, takes place in floating microalgae collectively called phytoplankton, and the associated organic matter ...

HABs (Harmful Algal Blooms) Analysis, Their Cost, and Ecological Consequences
2019Harmful algal blooms (HABs) have recently attracted the attention of local people, authorities, and scientists. This is because of the important and negative consequences they have on the environment, economy, and health. One aspect of this interest is the possibility of knowing the mechanisms that trigger this phenomenon and therefore being able to ...

Education and notification approaches for harmful algal blooms (HABs), Washington State, USA
Harmful Algae, 2016While numerous strategies have been used to educate and notify the public about potential hazards from exposure to Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), at present there are no national guidelines or suggested outreach approaches. To raise public awareness and determine effective HAB outreach methods, two Washington State agencies and three counties in the ...
