Climate change and global health: A call to more research and more action

open access: yesAllergy. European Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2022
There is increasing understanding, globally, that climate change and increased pollution will have a profound and mostly harmful effect on human health.

Implications of and possible responses to climate change [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Climate change is expected to worsen food insecurity and seriously undermines rural development prospects. It makes it harder to achieve the Millenium Development Goals and ensure a sustainable future beyond 2015.

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Control of Power Electronics Converters and Electric Motor Drives

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
With the increased emphasis on climate change and reducing harmful emissions in the atmosphere, interest in power electronics converters and electric motor drives has led to significant new developments in areas such as renewable energy systems or ...

Controlled drinking, harm reduction and their roles in the response to alcohol-related problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
This article first distinguishes three meanings of the term ‘harm reduction’ in the literature on alcohol problems: a European sense in which a change in drinking is not necessarily required; an American sense which includes the controlled drinking (CD ...

Strength through diversity: how cancers thrive when clones cooperate

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Intratumor heterogeneity can offer direct benefits to the tumor through cooperation between different clones. In this review, Kuiken et al. discuss existing evidence for clonal cooperativity to identify overarching principles, and highlight how novel technological developments could address remaining open questions.

The PI3Kδ inhibitor roginolisib (IOA‐244) preserves T‐cell function and activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Identification of novel PI3K inhibitors with limited immune‐related adverse effects is highly sought after. We found that roginolisib and idelalisib inhibit chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells and Treg suppressive functions to similar extents, but roginolisib affects cytotoxic T‐cell function and promotion of pro‐inflammatory T helper subsets to a

Importance of Dark Septate Endophytes in Agriculture in the Face of Climate Change

open access: yesJournal of Fungi
Climate change is a notable challenge for agriculture as it affects crop productivity and yield. Increases in droughts, salinity, and soil degradation are some of the major consequences of climate change.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
