Adaptive Observer for Coupled Wave PDE and Infinite ODE With Sampled Data and Unknown Input: Application to Brain Hemodynamics Estimation

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This article proposes a convergent adaptive observer for a damped wave PDE and an infinite‐dimensional ODE coupled in cascade using sampled‐in‐space ODE state measurements. The proposed observer estimates the distributed states of the PDE and ODE along with unknown PDE parameters and spatial input.

On abolishing symmetry requirements in the formulation of a five-level selective harmonic elimination pulse-width modulation technique

open access: yes, 2006
Selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHE-PWM) techniques offer a tight control of the harmonic spectrum of a given voltage waveform generated by a power electronic converter along with a low number of switching transitions.

Harmonization: Consumer Protection

open access: yes, 2014
This contribution gives an overview of law and economic works on consumer protection. It does so by taking three complementary angles: (1) assessing harmonization efforts regarding consumer protection in Europe, (2) presenting selected topics of substantive consumer law, and (3) analyzing the European consumer law enforcement from an economic point of ...

Planar Solid‐State Nanopores Toward Scalable Nanofluidic Integration Based on CMOS Technology

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We present a scalable silicon‐based fabrication strategy for planar solid‐state nanopores to enable their integration with complex nanofluidic systems. Prototype devices demonstrate normal voltage‐current characteristics, good noise performance, and appreciable streaming currents. Our CMOS‐compatible fabrication process offers precise geometric control

Harmonic Univalent Functions Starlike or Convex of Complex Order

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]We consider a generalized class SH (m, b) which is constructed by modified Salagean operator. The object of the present paper is to study some relations between classes of harmonic univalent functions which are starlike or convex of complex ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.
