Harmonic Balance Theory

1990
Harmonic balance differs from traditional transient analysis in two fundamental ways. These differences allow harmonic balance to compute periodic and quasiperiodic solutions directly and in certain circumstances give the method significant advantages in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

A new development of the harmonic balance method: The hybrid harmonic balance method

Analysis and Applications
The harmonic balance (HB) method is efficient in predicting the limit cycle oscillations for many dynamic systems including very high dimensional systems in fluid dynamics. Recently, some variations and extensions of the HB method have been developed and employed in the computation of large systems.

VCO Linearization Using Harmonic Balance

2006 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium Digest, 2006
In this work, different techniques are proposed for the computer aided design of voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO). The first technique allows setting the operation frequency band for specific values of the tuning voltage. The second technique imposes a linear frequency-voltage characteristic with the aid of an auxiliary generator.

Theory of Harmonic Balance

2019
Harmonic Balance relies on the representation of time-periodic variables as Fourier series. Hence, we first compile useful definitions, notation, and theory of Fourier analysis. Next, we mathematically formulate the problem of finding periodic solutions of differential equation systems.

Extended harmonic balance method

IEE Proceedings - Circuits, Devices and Systems, 1994
A new approach for frequency domain analysis and periodic steady state analysis of nonlinear circuits is described. Beside the variables generally used in the harmonic balance method (HBM) this method also uses a reduced waveform as a function of time.

Multirate harmonic balance simulation

SCS 2003. International Symposium on Signals, Circuits and Systems. Proceedings (Cat. No.03EX720), 2004
The paper investigates a new multi-tone harmonic balance approach based on multivariate representation of multirate signals. The proposed algorithm generates the new Newton-Raphson iterate using an iterative method based on Krylov subspaces - namely the GMRES method.

Harmonic Synthesis Theory for Dynamic Spring Balancing

Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control, 1997
At resonance, a small excitation force amplitude results in a relatively large amplitude system response. Although typically viewed as undesirable, operating a machine near resonance can sometimes be advantageous. A new approach to dynamic spring balancing, called harmonic synthesis, tunes a system so that the desired dynamic motion is approximated by ...

Harmonized Profiloplasty Using Balanced Angular Profile Analysis

Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 2004
To evaluate outcomes of aesthetic facial plastic surgery objectively the authors developed a photogrammetric profile analysis method, which they call "balanced angular profile analysis" (BAPA). To develop standards and ways to determine the conformation of various soft tissue segments analytically, 19 mean angular values acquired from the photographs ...

Harmonic Balance Finite Element Method

2016
The art of HBFEM is to use Computational Electromagnetics (CEMs) with harmonic balance theories, and CEM technologies (with IEEE Standard I597.1 and IEEE Standard 1597.2) to analyze or investigate nonlinear EM field and harmonic problems in electrical and electronic engineering and electrical power systems.
