Harmonic tremor from the deep part of Hakone volcano

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2022
The feeding system of magmatic fluid from the volcanic root to a shallow magma reservoir remains a poorly understood issue. Seismic events, including volcanic tremors and low-frequency earthquakes, in a deep part beneath volcanos are key observations for

Linking the flow-induced tremor model to the seismological observation: application to the deep harmonic tremor at Hakone volcano, Japan

open access: yesEarth, Planets and Space, 2023
Decades ago, Julian (J Volcanol Geotherm Res 101:19–26, 1994. https://doi.org/10.1029/93JB03129 ) proposed the lumped parameter model of non-linear excitation of an elastic channel vibration by fluid flow as a mechanism of volcanic harmonic tremor. Since

Helicopter vs. volcanic tremor: Characteristic features of seismic harmonic tremor on volcanoes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Volcanology and Geothermal Research, 2015
Abstract We recorded high-frequency (> 10 Hz) harmonic tremor with spectral gliding at Hekla Volcano in Iceland. Particle motion plots indicated a shallow tremor source. We observed up to two overtones beneath our Nyquist frequency of 50 Hz and could resolve a source of closely spaced pulses of very short duration (0.03-0.1 s) on zoomed seismograms ...

Listening carefully: unique observations of harmonic tremor at Lascar volcano, Chile

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1999
During the deployment of Proyecto de Investigación Sismológica de la Cordillera Occidental 94 (PISCO'94) in the Atacama Desert of Northern Chile, a broadband seismic station and a network of three short-period three-component stations were installed ...

Automated detection and characterization of harmonic tremor in continuous seismic data

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2017
AbstractHarmonic tremor is a common feature of volcanic, hydrothermal, and ice sheet seismicity and is thus an important proxy for monitoring changes in these systems. However, no automated methods for detecting harmonic tremor currently exist. Because harmonic tremor shares characteristics with speech and music, digital signal processing techniques ...

Physiological and harmonic components in neural and muscular coherence in Parkinsonian tremor

open access: yesClinical Neurophysiology, 2006
To differentiate physiological from harmonic components in coherence analysis of the tremor-related neural and muscular signals by comparing power, cross-power and coherence spectra.Influences of waveform, burst-width and additional noise on generating harmonic peaks in the power, cross-power and coherence spectra were studied using simulated signals ...

Evidence of harmonic tremor from a submarine volcano detected across the Pacific Ocean basin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research, 2002
Since the 1950s seismic activity associated with submarine volcanic eruptions has been detected throughout the Pacific Ocean basin using hydroacoustic methods. However, narrowband harmonic tremor with multiple overtones typically associated with subaerial volcanic eruptions has not commonly been observed.

Gliding and Quasi-harmonic Tremor Behaviour of Raung Volcano: November 2014 Crisis Period Case Study

open access: yesIndonesian Journal on Geoscience, 2018
DOI: 10.17014/ijog.5.1.13-21The seismic activity of Raung Volcano was raised on 11 November 2014. As many as 1709 tremors were recorded followed by continuous tremors appearing in late November 2014.

Subaerial and subglacial seismic characteristics of the largest measured jökulhlaup from the eastern Skaftá cauldron, Iceland [PDF]

open access: yesEarth Surface Dynamics, 2023
Subglacial floods cause seismic tremors that can be located and tracked in space and time using a seismic array. Here, we shed light on the generating mechanisms of the seismic signals observed during the largest measured flood from the eastern Skaftá ...

Mathematical model for volcanic harmonic tremors [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
AbstractHarmonic tremors consist in the release of infrasonic energy associated with volcanic activity. The typical frequency range of harmonic tremors is 0.1–12 Hz. We suppose that the harmonic tremors are due to the formation of bubbles entrapped in cavities that oscillate converting thermal energy into mechanic energy.
